One of the best books I've purchased
This book provides great, detailed information and activities for both therapists and parents in regards to meeting gross motor skills in children ranging from infants (or unable to ambulate) to children who are ambulatory and needing improvements in post walking skills. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone working with children who may have been diagnosed with Down Syndrome, or for children who have low muscle tone and are having trouble meeting gross motor milestones.

Worth Buying - amazing book
We have had the opportunity to have our child seen by Pat Winters - she is magical. But for those of you who can't travel to Colorado (Sie Center for Down Syndrome), this book does an EXCELLENT job of putting together what and how she wants your child with Down Syndrome to perform. I would highly recommend buying yourself this book, and then buying your PT a copy as well, so that you can use this as a guidebook for different milestones and exercises.

Great book.
Great resource for PTs and parents with Children with Down Syndrome. It is written as a professional reference, so you need to expect that if you decide to get it. Lots of great ideas, as well as explaining the "typical development" of children who have Down Syndrome. Good printing, nice size, not too big. It is a paperback, so it is not too heavy.

Our favorite in the series
I purchased all of the Woodbine books for children with Down Syndrome. I must say this is the one that I have used most often. My daughter with Down Syndrome is now 2 and this book has been an extremely good source of info. I have kept it handy the past two years and always find myself referring to it. I now have a newborn baby (who does not have DS), and I find myself referring back to the early chapters again to get ideas of ways to help his development. Great book I definitely reccommend!

Great ideas for motor skills
Pat Winders has excellent ideas and clear descriptions of how to assist children with Down Syndrome in developing their motor skills. As a physical therapist, I often recommend this book to families. She gives great pictures and uses family friendly language to convey her ideas. This book offers excellent ways to teach motor skills as the child progresses. Many of these ideas apply not only to children with DS, but to other children with low tone and/or muscle weakness.

The "bible" of physical therapy
Children with Down syndrome often have low muscle tone (hypotonia) and increased flexibility which can affect overall gross motor development. There are many issues that parents need to be aware of if their child has hypotonia. Even the way you hold your baby can affect his gross motor development. This book shows how to encourage and maximize a child's gross motor development - head control, rolling, sitting, cruising, walking, kicking, jumping - from infancy to age six. Pat Winders has written the "bible" of physical therapy for children with Down syndrome. It contains useful information for parents, therapists, and teachers.

As a physical therapist, this is a great book. It gives a break down of each stage of development and specific activities with detailed instructions. Some things I already knew, but it gave me some new ideas! It is written so that parents can understand the book to.

A must have for new parents of a child with Down Syndrome! Very comprehensive detail for each stage of development and explains the exercises required to progress physically development. I really liked the photos used in each chapter to back up the written explanations and found the book overall very easy to follow!
