The Lord of The Rings (1) — The Fellowship of The Ring

When I first looked at this book I was a little doubtful whether I would be able to read it as it has over 1000 pages. When I started reading it the language felt old and too descriptive, but it all started making sense 20 pages later. reading LOTR has been an experience of a lifetime. The book lasted for three weeks and I was unable to do anything else during those. Thankfuly, I haven't seen the movies and thus the story wasn't spoiled for me in any way. I now agree why fantasy lovers call LOTR the best work in the genre.The characters such as Gandalf and Aragorn are simply outstading. The sense of thrill when Frodo makes the journey to Rivendel and later when the company passes through the Mines of Morea is an experience to cherish. True adventure in every sense. This book is not heavy on magic like Harry Potter or Inkredia, but the depth in terms of story and characters is fantastic. The descriptions that seem heavy in the beginning become so enjoyable that you don't want to put the book down. This is truly the best work in Fantasy genre and it will be difficult to find anything else that would match it.

Well, contrary to the beliefs of many, Lord Of The Rings is actually a single book and a good fat one too. Publishers actually divided into three parts, more so after the blockbuster Oscar winner movies which was a series of three. This is the first part and yes, it is different from the movie in some parts, or should I say the reverse? Fellowship of the ring starts well but in the middle it gets a little stretchy specially the council meeting part, but overall, the story is marvellous and you can literally feel the start of a magnum opus journey even if you haven't watched the movies.The book, however, is a oddly shaped one, a bit squarer and that is why it gets a bit difficult to read towards the later part of the book.

The story is good, it is a bit dragged here and there. Few chapters could have been reduced. Have to read next parts .

Reading it

I really love this book and it is one of the best fantasy novels in print. There are some sad parts and also a sense of urgency among the characters in fighting the evil that threatens their world. It is an amazing story and absorbing beginning to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
