Q: I received this comforter today. the tag reads: cover- 100% bamboo filling 100% polyester. this is not cooling then? am i missing something??

The breathability of fabric made from polyester is dependent on how they make the fabric (or filling, in this case) rather than the use of polyester as the material. Unfortunately, the only way to know is to test it out. You cannot draw a conclusion on the breathability based on the fact that it uses polyester. It is possible for polyester fabric and filling to be highly breathable, but totally depends on how they make it. In some cases, polyester can be used to make fabric that is windproof and waterproof, but in other cases it can be highly breathable mesh, which breathes better than any natural alternatives. Sorry, there is no easy way to know.

Q: anyone know if bamboo grounds you? as in earth grounding

Going outside barefooted and standing on the grass/ground will ground yo you.

Q: Does it come with pillow shams?

No pillow shams, but the comforter is really.

Q: I usually wash everything before using, is this an exception? Should I just stick it inside a washed duvet cover and be done with it?

I didn't wash ours. I exposed it to sunlight for a couple of hours and it looked nice, no odor.
