The Ashes of the Unknown: Sunset on America, Book 2

Super great story teller
This book series will scare the crap out of you. Not sure where he got his ideas for it but I had an ex military chaplain client who totally believes that we are going to be attacked by China, Iran, Russia, and North Korea just like these books portray...that they will band together to go after us. And I wouldn't be surprised if the weapons that were left in Afghanistan as well as the half million BDU uniforms that were left behind also will be used as well. Very scary. The only unrealistic thing is that I do believe our allies would come to our rescue if anything like this happened all those allied with us in NATO...so these four A$$wipe countries will have to be able to take all of them out as well. They would never leave us hanging like the book describes.

Enjoying the read
I like this genre, so thought I would get this book to read myself to sleep. Instead I find I am reading into the wee hours. Plot is fast moving with some surprising twists. Characters are interesting even if not deep. Ready to start next in series.

Excellent thriller not for the faint of heart
As a fan of Post-Apocalyptic sagas, this one has stated well. A pair of brothers separated for years find themselves with unwanted challenge for their family and town.

Fast read
Nice character development. Hated to end with him especially with no clear ending. Will read the next book to find out what happens.

So much despair
I loved book 1 and raced straight into book 2 thinking I would binge this whole series in a few weeks but now I'm kind of pumping the brakes. Book 2 reveals one layer of the unknown from book 1, which is what needs to happen to start building a clearer picture of what's going on, but it leaves nothing but despair and hopelessness. With an EMP attack, there's no more communication, which means there's no such thing as truth or misinformation, only instinct, survival and low-information decisions. I love the characters, short of the mysterious guy with the cat that squeezes in a bit of campiness amidst all the gritty pain and emotion. I'm definitely tempted to come back and try book 3, but I don't know if I can handle reading more of this series in a high-anxiety year like 2024 is going to be.

Great read
Book 2 was even more action packed than book one ! I'm this book we learn more about the characters especially Cody. I found myself staying up late just to finish this cliff-hanger. I am going to be moving on to book 3.
