Ghost in the Shell: The Official Movie Novelization

A Great Novelization Based Of the 2017 Film
Ghost in the Shell by James Shallow is a Novelization based on the 2017 film “Ghost in the Shell” a film based on a popular Japanese Comic/Anime. Imagine the near future. Imagine that instead of using a clunky keyboard and monitor to read this website, you could have this blog downloaded directly into your brain. Imagine that the line between Man and Machine continues to blur until computer viruses infect living minds, and corporations and governments can reprogram people’s thoughts and personalities to suit their political agendas. Such is the Sci-fi cyberpunk style world of Ghost in the Shell movie.Ghost in the Shell, tells the story of Major Motoko Kusanagi a severely injured woman turned into a cyborg super soldier and the members of Section 9, an elite unit of crime fighters who specialize in taking down the cyber-terrorists of the future, including ghost hackers – criminals who reprogram their victims into mindless slaves and destroy their very souls. While on the trail of one such cyber terrorist, the genius known only as Kuze who is bent on the total destruction of the Hanka Robotics Corporation, Kusanagi begins to suspect that her nemesis may be an intelligence born from the fabric of the Internet itself with no real existence in the physical world, and may also have a connection to her mysterious forgotten past.James Shallow’s Movie adaptation contains enough detail and intrigue to make this more than just a casual read. It expands a lot that wasn’t in the movie, and has a lot of great action. Overall, Aside from that, yeah, this is a very close retelling of the 2017 film's events into paperback format. Some scenes have extra snippets of dialogue that would have likely been cut from the film for pacing that, again, film fans will appreciate for the added drops of lore they may present as well as building the sci-fi world of 2040 Japan more, if only by a margin... All-in-all it's a good read for any Ghost in the Shell fan!

Ghost in the Shell (Live action) novelization
Authors James Swallow and Abbie Bernstein bring us the novelization of the film Ghost in the Shell (Live Action). The Major is on a mission to bring the terrorist Kuze in. Kuze who has taken out the scientists of Hanka Robotics for reasons that are unclear at first but as the book comes to it's close we find out that the Major and Kuze where runaways who had been taken captive by Hanka and turned into prototypes for project 2571. Now as I began reading this book and I noticed that there are elements from the original 1995 anime film, and elements from the sequel film too as well as some from the Ghost in the Shell series Stand Alone Complex's second season. It is an interesting story about the Majors back story prior to being in her shell and I do recommend this to those who like cyberpunk and the Ghost in the Shell series overall.

James Swallow's novelization of Ghost in the Shell is out and I can say definitely worth the wait! His ability to write top notch in cannon literature has been honed from his years of star trek, Warhammer and Deus Ex Novels. Every page is filled with love and understanding of the source material in a way that I feel surpasses the most recent movie in many ways. In Jame's new novel we take a deeper look into the the mind of Kusanagi and her situation. Every inch of the action and setting is saturated in metaphor and lore that will quench even the most thirsty of fan.If your looking for a good read, or just want something fun to talk about with me over the next week, give this book a go on kindle or paperback over @https://www.amazon.com/Ghost-Shell-Official-Mo…/…/1785657526Enjoy, for the tale is vast and infinite...

so glad a GITS movie novelization exists
For all the bad publicity this movie got, it was actually pretty decent. Had an amazing cyberpunk mood and great music, but not that much merchandise available to buy. This movie novelization is almost like an expanded cut, with more descriptions/character moments, that makes you appreciate the movie more. If you're a fan of the movie, I'd definitely recommend giving this book a chance.

Way better then film
The cleanest reading experience of a cyberpunk book I’ve read in years. To the point with his words and your sucked inside the world.Listen to some ambient Bladerunner music at night as you read,it’s much more engaging.

A Missed Opportunity
I bought this at a local bookstore, hence the lack of a "Verified Purchase" tag. You'll note this book has two authors listed; James Swallow, and Abbie Bernstein. If you're wondering why, it has to do with the substantial edits the studio made on the film in post-production.Based on comments on Swallow's blog (http://jamesswallow.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/ghost-writing.html), it seems the studio wanted the novelization to match the final film, but by the time they got to that point, Swallow had moved on to other projects. Presumably his novelization was based on the shooting script, and was turned in well before the film was in a finished state. So Bernstein was brought on to rewrite things into line with the final film.Paradoxically, this robs the novel of any real value. Given how the film turned out, fans would have likely been very interested in a novelization that gave them insight into the creative team's initial vision; a glimpse of the film that might have been. Instead, we get a novelization that is essentially a scene-for-scene description of the movie. There's nothing wrong with it, there's just no point in reading it if you've seen the film. All things considered, the novel was a missed opportunity to let fans see what was originally planned for the film. Novelizations often include differences from the final film, so it's disappointing that they felt the need to have this one match up so completely. Hopefully one day Swallow will be allowed to post his original manuscript online. I know I'd love to read it.

Altered at the last minute by a different author to ...
Altered at the last minute by a different author to accommodate late script changes to the movie, this much delayed tie in novel is just as insulting to the original as the movie is.
