Degh To Dastarkhwan: Qissas And Recipes: Qissas and Recipes from Rampur Cuisine

Degh to Dastarkhwan is quite a good book about the food and stories of Rampur. Not much has been recorded about Rampuri cuisine in the past, and Tarana Hussain Khan has done commendable work in bringing some of the interesting stories and delicacies of Rampur to light.However, the chapters are loaded with elaborate stories that run for many pages, with only a few of recipes attached. Rampuri cuisine, almost tucked back in time, needs a revamp to restore its unique flavors. The book could have been more valuable if the stories were summarized to a couple of pages in each chapter, allowing for more unique recipes that are less known to the public through other cuisines. Perhaps a more concise storytelling approach with a greater focus on unique, lesser-known recipes would have added more value to the book.

What an enjoyable read. Not only did the book have recipes, but also stories woven around them, along with pictures. It felt like a surreal dream and I could almost taste the warmth of the dishes in my mouth.

The recipes given are sourced from the books for the famed Raza library,Rampur & families who cook Rampuri cuisine.Though I have not cooked the recipes as yet I will update my review later.

As a Rampuri who grew up away from rhe city, I was delighted to go through the intricate history and age old recipes of my ancestors. Can't wait to churn them out and share with my family and friends!

Being a an aficionado of the Rivayat e Rampur myself, enjoyed the little nuances of the rampuri culture that i have experienced myself all these years.All chapters were meticulously written covering all the aspects of a rampuri life.Look forward to more books from the author specially one which encompasses all the geo political, cultural , economic factor and the flora of fauna of the erstwhile riyasat which can be aptly regarded as the insight to Rampur, for all the non rampuris."Rampoor ahle shahar ki nazar me hai wo shaharKi Jahan hasht bahisht aakar hue hain baaham " - Ghalib
