Gold Prospectors Handbook

This is a great book with lots of valuable information for the beginning gold prospector!! It is well written and very informative. If you are just starting out on your adventure this is a must have informational guide. It helped me a lot in my new quest to find gold and keep up with my other half who has held this dream for a long time and did all his research. I just came on board after retirement and this was a quick learn guide!! Highly recommend this book!!

Upon first getting this book, I thought that it looked cheap and not worthy to buy, but since it was a handbook I thought I would give it a try. Less than 10 pages into this book I knew that this was the perfect beginner book that I was looking for. It gives you a basic undestanding of all the "Basic and Essential" equipment needed for the just starting prospector. It also goes into detail on how and where in the river to look for placer deposits. I didn't really care for the large section on dredging because I have not begun to get into that yet, but when I do, you can rest assure I'll be cracking that book open again to that section. I would highly recommend this book to anyone getting started in prospecting.

I just skimmed through but I saw information that is usable. Itsdesigned more for the western part of the us and alaska but I can adapt the skills and info for where I live.

I used to check this book out from the liberary . It's a good primer and helps me to spread " The Fever " to other people . People who will want to go gold hunting & do all the hard work while I do the panning and cooking !Of course ALL THE GOLD IS GONE ! so don't bother looking fer IT !

The book was very comprehensive in its consideration of gold prospecting, although, since I am a newbie, some of the stuff was over my head. The author paints a very realistic picture of the difficulties experienced and how it is very hard to do this and make a living at it. Perhaps metal detecting or desert prospecting would be more interesting/lucrative/not so much work! The climates will surely be more suitable. I am going to be doing some beach detecting when my wife and I go back to Aruba so we'll see how that works out. Just have to check with the authorities to be sure it is legal, etc. Remember, ignorance is no excuse for breaking the law or ruining the environment!

Great background on geology for finding gold. Leans more to load gold minning. While written in 1990s, the basic principles are solid.Since gold was produced in collapsing stars billions of years ago a few years on Earth time means nothing!

Very informative, can be a bit dry and complicated. Wouldn't recommend for a first book into prospecting but definitely for someone who wants to progress to the next level

Exactly what I wanted

It's a good book, its full of information but the structure is terrible. The writer is trying to tell you 1,000 things at once and cuts back and forth between things he's already explained.It needs some dramatic editing, between the spelling mistakes and jumbled information, we then come to the illustrations!Every picture or illustration are unlabeled. No figure. Yet throughout the book in several points you read"And this can be seen in illustration 0-0" or "Refer to figure 0-0"Every referal is 0-0, so you have no idea which picture the paragraph is refering, Add that to the fact the information is all over the place and you have a small yellow headache for a book.Buy the 2nd edition of this book when it comes out, this print apauling.
