insightful book
What a wonderful tribute to Paul. I’m sure Willie was heartbroken by his passing, but he did a wonderful job bringing Paul to life for us to know. And now I understand why Paul was Willie’s best friend. What an amazing man he was. Rest in peace Paul. God bless Willie for sharing their story.

Here's My Paul English Story
Sometime in the mid seventies around the time Willie hit it big with his Red Headed Stranger album, I went to see him three nights in a row at the now gone Great Southeastern Music Hall. The shows were all great, but Paul English just stood out as a power behind the whole show. He didn't sing or showboat in any way other than he just had that PRESENCE about him. While the band was on a break I was in the restroom when he came in smoking a cigarette. I wanted to talk to him, but he was intimidating as hell! When he was washing his hands I got up my nerve and said, "Can I bum a smoke"? I didn't even smoke! He took out a pack and flipped one out, and seeing my nervousness, reached in his pocket and flicked a lighter in front of my face, and lit the cigarette for me. He then gave that "smile" and asked "How you fixed for socks and underwear?" This book brought back the memory of that in spades. Paul English was the kind of friend that everyone should be fortunate to have at least once in their life.

Recommended To All Longtime Fans Of Willie Nelson!
If you’re a longtime fan of Willie Nelson, Me and Paul is a book you’ll be glad you read. Nelson clearly accomplishes his mission in writing this book, which is to serve as a loving and fitting tribute to Paul English, his closest friend for about 70 years, until his death in 2020.To paraphrase Nelson, he said his mission was to “bring English back from the infinite abyss.” In my opinion, Nelson unquestionably achieved his mission by chronicling his many adventures - many happy, some sad but all heartfelt - with his longtime dear friend, drummer (since the mid-1950s) and “partner in crime.”Like all good tales from a life in music, Nelson’s are the kind of stories that seem to shift a bit with each telling. Upon finishing Me and Paul, I didn’t have a strong sense of how much truth “lived” within each detail of Nelson’s stories with Paul English. But, for me, I didn’t care about that because his stories are so entraining. I don’t think you’ll care either.#Me and Paul. #Net Galley

Excellent read
I’ve always said they should make a movie adaptation of Paul and Willie. Reading this book proved that I’m right. Back when the world was full of characters, when music was art and brotherhood was more than a slogan. Read this book.
