Pretty ingenious
I read a lot of the reviews before buying this. Was replacing an old home-made house that broke. As we live on the gulf, I was worried about corrosion, so this being made of aluminum should do the trick. Like a lot of the reviewers said, this takes several hours to put together. The instructions are so so. If you are mechanical, you'll be fine. There were a few things wrong in the instructions, so try to read through and put it together in your head first. For instance, a part that was supposed to be stamped 'B' wasn't, but it was easy enough to figure out it was the right part. My initial concern about this house was the ability to clean it. That's the ingenious part. The bird house 'doors' flip up after you remove the rod and center partition, which takes all of 5 seconds. You could hose the thing down if you wanted to. I haven't put it up yet, as I was going to look for a really sturdy pipe (like a gas pipe), but that doesn't give me the ability to lower the house easily. So, even though the reviews aren't great, I ordered the extendable post that fits this house from same company. Hopefully I'll get 'lucky' and won't have some of the problems with it others have stated, like a bent top or missing hardware. Although I plan to use different hardware, anyway. I'll post about the extension post when I get it. All in all I am pretty impressed with the house as long as you are willing to take a few hours from your time to put it together. I'll post next year how it did during the year, as it's already a bit late in the spring to attract many martins. Also I plan to take it down when the hurricanes come in (we had 4 last year, Sally being one). I'm sure that will be disruptive, but, can't help that. I don't think it would survive, otherwise. It's sturdy, but not that sturdy.

Take your time, don't worry about all the nuts & screws, mine had way more then I needed, & they are hard to handel.
5 stars on this, well made-don't be intimidated by all the pieces, nuts & screws, this birdhouse does need to be put together, it is not a 30 minute job, consider it a project, & do not get in a hurry, it will take some time to assemble, I put a throw rug on the table, & laid all the parts on the rug, the instructions on the box will tell you what tools you will need, 5'16 wrench, Phillip's screwdriver, & plyers, I didn't find much use for the plyers, but the 5/16 wrench you will definitely need, my wrench was a box end, & open end combination, both ends got a lot of use. I found that a 6 inch high screwdriver worked better then a shorter size, I had a cordless screwdriver, but that did not work out very well, due to holding at an angle, I could not hold the screw secure, & did not have a longer length screwdriver bit, so had to use a manual screwdriver for most of my assembly, the nuts & screws were a bit of a task to hold onto for me, I would drop them quite often, so be patient. I found the instructions to be pretty good, they are listed in steps to follow, my birdhouse has 3 floors, so once you do the 1st floor you will do the rest the same way---all through putting this together only the sides were used for each floor leaving the ends open, don't worry it all comes together in the end, the roof you can either put together first or last, it will be last & a very simple installation. then come the end pieces, & rails..

Beautiful and sturdy but a challenge to assemble.
I had been debating whether to buy an expensive purple Martin house or one that looks OK for the money and decided on the latter. I chose Birds Choice because it had pretty good reviews in spite of the negative reviews about putting it together.Their house is really not that difficult to put together but the instructions are so hard to follow and the pictures that are offered are just horrible that it makes the whole process seem like a nightmare. I'm one of those impatient people that get ahead of the instructions and because the instructions don't offer a parts list with pictures to go along with the names of the parts I was confused as to what they meant by a base plate and ended up installing the roof plate for the baseplate which actually helped me because it kept the house nice and flat versus if you put the baseplate you will have to put the house so that that pipe goes in a hole. So when I got to the roof installation and I needed the roof plate that's when I realized my mistake but I just switched out the plates which was not a big deal. I put this house together I would say that it took me between 3 to 4 hours because of all the little screws which make the house really sturdy. Also because of my mistakes. The house looks beautiful and I really hope that the purple martins will like where I placed it. If I can do it, anyone can. A note to the company: BIRDS CHOICE- make an instructional video. Step by step to assemble this house. I looked- found nothing. Better instructions with high quality, clear pictures. Better written. Whoever wrote the instructions can probably put a house together really quick but has a difficult time explaining how to do it. The baffle was ordered separately.

Awesome Purple Martin House
I usually refrain from the review thing because honestly I don't 100% trust them. This Purple Martin house is very nice. I will give everyone a bit of advice; 1st the instructions aren't all that great, but sufficient, do not start this unless you have decent time to finish it. It doesn't take 3hrs but it takes awhile. Use your phillips head screwdriver and a 1/4" socket set. They give you plenty of extra screws and locknuts so don't stress. I took the box it came in and cut a small hole in the middle to set the first part into it provided a nice little table to work off of. I spun it around as I was working to get at the nuts, you"ll see once you begin. Each floor screws to the prior, tighten fully as you go. Great quality on this and it isn't as bad as some indicate for assembly.

Best Purple Martin Birdhouse Ever Purchased!
This is a fantastic purple martin house. It does take time, patience and some skill to assemble, but finished product is well worth the effort. Just do it bit by bit and it comes together exactly as shown in the diagram. (It also comes in a lovely, decorative box which is perfect for gift giving.)
