Excellent book!
I bought this book for a college course I took last semester. It isn't widely available, and I am grateful to have found it. It is a collection of lectures given by Maxine Greene, transcribed so those of us who were not present at The Lincoln Center Institute could benefit from her vision of art in education. I anticipate re-reading it many times in the years to come.

Keep moving forward, asking questions and exploring
Maxine Greene's lectures are something to take in a bit at time. Each one can be contemplated and used to engage the heart and brain in thinking about the arts and education.

The book is interesting for someone who is interested in a topic related to music and art! So if you are not into it, be ready to learn stuffs that maybe you didn’t know before.

Three Stars
I found the ideas interesting, but the writing, that was culled from lectures, rather repetitive.

Variations on a Blue Guitar: The Lincoln Center Institute Lectures on Aesthetic Education
Variations on a Blue Guitar is such a creative and intriguing title for such a dry book. There's lots of good information in the book, but it's so academic that it's hard to get at. I much preferred Imagination First: Unlocking the Power of Possibility, which presents many of the same concepts in a much more interesting way.

Boring and redundant.
Boring and redundant. If you read one chapter, you have read all there is to read. These were taken from Greene's opening remarks from each of the Lincoln Center Arts forums for teachers. So the content in each chapter is the same, only slightly altered..Her message is that the arts can transform the classroom to be more interactive and interesting. There now you do not have to read or buy the book.
