Save your $$ to buy a Weaver
I bought this to thin leather for wallets and such and for the price thought it'd be better than the $30-40 options here.Following is a list of all the manufacturing and quality deficiencies:1) The risers were welded onto the base crooked.2) The handle was bent so significantly that it was impossible to line the roller evenly to the blade do to differential spring tension.3) The blade retainer was bowed/warped. This caused the center of the blade to be gapped further from the roller. Adjusting the 'set'/gap screws under the blade retainer was ineffectual.4) The springs end loops are too large for the screws/nuts and bind differently on the handle, again resulting in uneven tension. This was easily fixed by adding washers.I was so excited when I got this, but instantly disappointed after several failed attempts and wasting leather. I put it aside for a but until I had more time to try to figure out the issues.Eventually, I was able to straighten out therisers and handle a bit and the unit will skive a 1 inch...maybe up to 2 inch wide strap, but forget 3 or 4 inch pieces even with the use of 6 inch sheet metal pliers. The pile has sat on the shelf for a year until yesterday when I tried it again. I really wish I had returned this piece of gosa immediately and got a refund, but now it's going in the trash.I've included several photos showing the issues described above and recommend that you do NOT buy this and instead save your money for a BG, Weaver, or even Tandy one.
