UPDATE: removing a star because of build quality. Electrical contacts got stuck inside the unit and while trying to fix it the leads broke. I would have to solder to fix.This is a great safety concept. After recalls such as the recent Ford exhaust recall, it makes sense to include carbon monoxide detectors in a vehicle. One of the challenges with such a device is testing -- you don't really want to intentionally generate CO to test this device! Recently I was in a situation where I could adequately test it though, so here's a review.Pros: The item works. We inadvertently tested this while sitting in traffic with the windows rolled down, and the CO level rose just enough to trigger the alarm. Turning on the fans and driving around made the alarm stop. Also, the power ports function well, so the device is always functional and we don't regret taking up a 12V port for this purpose.Cons: The blinking blue light on startup is very distracting at night. The ability to dim it would be a major improvement.

There were no previous reviews of this item and there really is nothing else available. So I was hoping to have a low-cost solution to detecting carbon monoxide levels in a vehicle. The casing for the device and the overall look and feel of the unit make it look like it is good quality. However, before I can trust this device, I had to test it. I placed it in my vehicle like the instructions requested. I then left my vehicle running inside the garage to build up the carbon monoxide levels. I purchased two of these units and only one went off. It also did not go off until about 20-25 minutes of running in a closed garage. The device that did go off, I removed and allowed the other device to continue running for about 45 minutes and it never went off. I would have assumed that for an enclosed area like my garage with my vehicle running the device would've went off sooner and the second device would've went off at the same time as the first. That being said, if I cannot trust the device I cannot use the device. Especially when the device itself is what you are counting on to protect you. I had safeguards in place and was not inside the garage. There is no reason to contact the maker or shipper because if the device works like they advertise, especially this, it should have worked the first time. Why would I replace it?

I got this item with all the publicity surrounding police-modified Ford Explorers recently and have been assured by the lack of alarm thus far.Item feels solid and with the metal tip also would serve as a means to break a window to exit the vehicle in water, etc. Lights up subtle blue when working and doubles as a car charger. Item price has about doubled since I bought it for just south of a Jackson. The unit is quite warm when operating but I assume that is normal.Deducting one star for the near doubling in price, would be 5 star if still at same price as is well made.

This amazing gadget saved my life I had no idea I had toxic carbon monoxide leaking into my vehicle of course I couldn’t figure out why I was falling asleep while I was driving and sitting in the car not to mention the fact that I do have children so have no idea what made me think about it but when I thought maybe Glamour monoxide to be a possibility I ordered this amazing gizmo and I plug it into everyone of my vehicles every time I get in just to be on the safe side it is the best product I probably have ever bought !!

This great for adding USB ports. However, it was frequently alarming and a full inspection by the dealer turned up nothing. They said sometimes it is from defroster, heater, etc. Too disturbing to Trust.

Can’t see the value of this item. Sometime it lit up sometimes doesn’t.

Only worked for 2 weeks

Did not alert after conducting the recommended test. Also, I ordered two and only one was delivered.
