Supergirl Vol. 3: Ghosts of Krypton Paperback – June 6, 2017

My favorite Supergirl comic series compiled into a very nice graphic novel. Good color. High quality pages. Not difficult to read the bits that are in the center, bound to the spine of the book. Big fan of the way this graphic novel is put together.

This is the series that got me into reading Supergirl comics.While she is not my favorite character this series is enjoyable and is easy to get into for someone who is not familiar with Supergirl and her background. The action is good and the art is well drawn.

This was ... OK. Supergirl helps out Superman and gets this device that allows her to see Krypton. Then she promises a kid to help cure him of cancer and hangs out with Resurrection Man trying to come up with a cure.The Good: Drew Johnson and Ron Randall both provide very good art. Unfortunately, there's some other artists on the book too who's art is subpar.The Bad: The writing is inconsistent and kind of all over the place. Yet, it still continues to dip into that same well of Kara growing up on another planet and moping around that she'll never fit in. It gets old really quick.The Ugly: Editorially, they had a chance to fix an issue where a fill in story plops down right in the middle of the cure for cancer story and yet they chose not to insert it into the book chronologically instead. Even though there's a table of contents that goes "Part 2, fill in story, Part 3". It pretty much ruins the only dramatic scene in the whole book.

Kelley Puckett has written some good DC stories in the past but that is not the case here. One interesting idea (Kara promising a dying boy he'd live) is just butchered by nonsense. It could have been special. There was so much superfluous drivel that distracted from the actual story its sad. Added to that was some insane editorially decisions. The art, mostly by Drew Johnson, was very good. Overall, this series has been a disappointment.
