Perfect for ANY Artist!
As an artist myself, I'm always looking so something high quality, robust and portable. This sketching set has all three. Here is what I found using it...- Bag Quality? The bag is heavy canvas lined with leather (artificial). The elastic pencil holding straps are well made and keep the pencils, stumps, erasers and other utensils secure. This is important because when the bag is rolled up, you obviously don't want the items falling out. I did not find that to be the case with this.- How was the drawing supplies? (Pencils, eraser, knife, stumps??)The drawing pencils and tools range the entire field of what any artist would want or expect in a sketch kit. This kit has it all. The pencils are perfect and have a full range from light to dark. However, Graphite can only go so dark. Because of this, most kits will use charcoal pencils to achieve those VERY dark colors that make your drawings pop! This is a normal practice for many high end art kits. Artists like myself, look for this in any sketch kit. Otherwise, I have to supply my own charcoal pencils. This kit is also supplied with a black & white colored pencils. The reason they include the "white" colored pencil is mainly for highlights...OR...for working with colored paper. White can do wonders for your art work that pencils alone cannot do. However, I am not sure why they have included black, seeing as the charcoal is far more effective tool for this and FAR easier to work with. Colored pencils are very unforgiving if you make mistakes and are hard to erase. Whereas charcoal works far better for this. Therefore, as an artist, I would much rather prefer using an black & white charcoal pencil, rather than a colored pencil. But you can still make this work. Just be careful. You can also be use these for burnishing, which is a blending technique that is highly effective. The eraser worked perfect. This is the exact eraser you need especially for charcoal and is highly effective. Most artists (like me..) will use a knife and cut up the eraser during its use to achieve different effects (like fur or hair). So over time, the eraser holder won't have much to hold. When this happens, I just use a zip lock bag to put the eraser in, and then put it in the bag and roll it up tight so it doesn't fall out. never had an issue with this. The pencil extender is a must have in any art kit. The pencil extender works great and locks in nicely. The extender is needed for when the pencils start to see some major action and shrink. The kit comes with two different stumps that are a must have with ANY sketch kit. These worked great! The kit also comes with sharpening tools (knife, sandpaper etc..). All handy and very much needed. Because it comes with basically a razor blade, it may not be well suited for small children or kids who may not have been shown how to safely handle a knife. So beware!Quality of the note book? The paper in the note book is good. It's not the "greatest" quality, but this is just a sketchbook, NOT something you would be putting into a gallery. So it was perfect. It is compact and easy to store. The paper is a medium to light weight paper. This makes it perfect for blending without damage to the paper. I found no issues when blending with charcoal or graphite.Overall, I love using this. Very good quality sketch kit; portable and has everything you need.

Good entry level set
This is a good sketching set for a young beginning artist. The supplies are good enough to give the beginner an idea of what everything is for without spending a great deal on quality supplies. The pencil roll is nice and could be restocked with better supplies as the artist advances. The range of graphite pencils is good as are the charcoal pencils. The colored pencils are of medium quality which is good for a beginner. The pencil sharpener doesn't work at all and should be replaced right away. The kneadable eraser and the plastic eraser are both good. The craft knife is serviceable but doesn't have the mechanism to lock the blade in place so it might extend all the way out if it were to get stuck and be pulled. The pencil extender works well to make it easier to use short pencils. The shading stumps are wrapped tight enough to keep their point and have a pretty pattern on them. The sanding block will work well to sand down the stumps as you use them. The sketch book seems to be about an 80lb weight with a textured surface to grab the graphite and charcoal for rough sketching, and the back side is a smoother texture. It also has nice strong cardboard top and bottom flaps which give it good stability to draw on while holding it. This is a good entry level set of sketching supplies for the beginning artist, and would make a nice gift. My suggestion would be to add a good instructional book to go along with it.

New artist
I like everything in this set except the black and white pencils. Everything I sharpen them the lead is broken inside the pencil. So it's very frustrating.

Nice starter kit
My daughter is in college for art. She specializes in sculpture, but many of her classes require drawing supplies. Of course, her instructors often require specific supplies, but I got this for her because it looked so fun. The case alone seems very useful. The case can definitely be refilled or repurposed for other pencils and supplies. But the art pencils and supplies that come with this aren't bad at all. She has used them when she has run out of something and found that the pieces perform well. As a non-artist I am impressed with the completeness of this kit. There are sharpening tools and so many pencils of different types. I'm sure that for a beginner artist, this set would be amazing. It can also prove useful as supplies for a more established artist. This would be a great gift for someone with an interest in sketching.

Great art set!
I am a beginner, just starting to try and get practice with drawing and sketching so I am still finding my art style. This kit has everything that I need to start getting familiar with the tools. The canvas carrier that everything came in is nice and very well made. Each tool fits securely in place with a little elastic band. The kit comes with sharpening tools (a knife, sandpaper, and a sharpener) so be aware that there is a knife in here if you are gifting this to a smaller child. The pencils were very easy to draw with and I was very impressed with the eraser, it worked very well and didn't smudge anything around. The sketch book itself was also a nice quality. This entire kit is very easy to pack and take on the go, which is great if you are starting to sketch things out in nature!

art school dream set
My daughter has gotten interested in drawing, and this is her xmas list ask. A nice pencil set for drawing. I figured for the price it was worth a chance. I received a beautiful canvas bag, organized nicely in separate elastic hooks, with every pencil you could need. You get graphite, charcoal, erasers, a few different blending tools and different size leads. Such a nice set, I would have loved this as a student in art school. I only had the art bin, and tons of different pencils purchased separately. I love that this bag rolls up nicely and is easy to carry with the strap. Makes it much easier while hauling your drawing board, portfolio, and paper to class. Great set, this will make her so happy!!
