I honestly don't know whether these work as a "fabric softener" or whether they shorten drying time. I haven't used dryer sheets for a very long time, and I don't really have clothes that are prone to static. I do have some heavy towels, and I like the idea of something that will help lift heavy wet cotton and keep it from coming out stiff and squished. I hadn't heard about dryer balls at all until pretty recently, but what I found on web searches was general agreement that it's good to use them.These dryer balls make a bit of noise, but they have survived my dryer just fine, including on the high heat setting (which might be a bit higher than it's supposed to be, because the vent is crammed into a pretty small space). And I don't see any problem with how the laundry is coming out. So I am glad that I got them, and I've been using them regularly.

Definitely helps in the dryer! Speeds dry time and helps soften the clothes.

These dryer balls have worked pretty well after consistent use, my one complaint is that they don’t really help with static as much as I expected them to. Sheets and blankets make my hair stand up even with using 4! They’ve done a great job of fluffing pillows and drying clothes, though.

Bought these to replace some older ones that were not so great, they definitely do a better job than those ones especially with loosening up pet hair on our clothing (I use them in the washer and dryer)

They do the job. They help keep clothes from getting tangled, but do not really prevent static. They have held up after about 10 uses, and still going strong. I use all four balls at once since I dry medium to large loads.
