Reasonably inexpensive, it allows you to identify,locate and pinpoint the location of studs (metal or wood) wires and metal inside the wall cavity. The LCD display is a bit dated, but it works fine to find the edges and center of wall studs. This is especially important around door openings where switches and receptacles are to be located. Saves one the issue of cutting into a wall cavity only to find an unexpected stud where the hole was to be cut.

This item works like 75% of the time. When it finds a stud its great. But other times it will fail to find the same stud. As far as stud finders go, it's probably the best for the price.

I received the stud finder 2 days earlier than expected and is everything it was advertised to be. Also it had very detailed instructions, came with a battery ready to use and is very easy and efficient to use. Thanks

Works great: finds the thin metal straps in my condo walls without difficulty for mounting my Fire TV and shelves for Echo Studios and Subwoofer paired with the TV and holders in a bedroom for Echos and a Subwoofer to create a good sounding stereo and firmly-mounted stereo in the bedroom to attend me when I say Good Morning to hear the overnight news stories; the bedroom responds as Alexa and the Living Room as Echo. I haven't yet cranked them up too far, but they seem well-embedded in the walls so far.
