Q: How stiff are the bristles? I have a silicone broom but want something with softer bristles. I want to gently sweep a hardwood floor, not scrub.

I would say that the bristles are more on the softer side. They are are think rubber but is bends easily to sweep the floor. I use it to get hair of my dance floor, and it does well.

Q: Could i use the head of this as a pool brush or will it just dry out and fall apart?

I believe you can. this doesn't look like something that will dry out easily.

Q: I can not put this together. It keeps falling apart. Any advice?

It's been a while since I purchased mine, but I do not recall there being ANY issues with putting it together. Perhaps you received the wrong pieces (i.e. 2 of 1 section and 0 of another section). You might consider purchasing another one and returning this one.
