Seeing progress after a few weeks
I don't have much experience with hair removal systems, but my husband wanted to try this on his dark, inconsistent chest hair. He was shaving and was tired of that routine and the skin irritation that came along with that. The instructions were easy to follow and the device is comfortable to hold. I read that there are also gun styled ones available, but this one wasn't uncomfortable to use. I could see that if he was doing smaller areas, the device would be a bit too large, but it was just fine for his chest. He said it was painless but sometimes a bit itchy afterwards, which he attributed to his one skin sensitivities. After using for a few weeks (not as consistently as he had hoped but pretty good), he is seeing a difference in the amount of regrowth. He definitely plans to keep using it (and using it more consistently - we were traveling a lot). He's happy with the progress and is looking forward to continued use to decrease his chest hair. For our price point, this one works great!Review for IPL Hair Removal, Permanent Laser Hair Removal Device At-Home Hair Remover Machine Device Painless Reduction in Hair Growth for Women and Men, Face and Body with 5 Energy Levels and 2 Flash ModesIPL Hair Removal, Permanent Laser Hair Removal Device At-Home Hair Remover Machine Device Painless Reduction in Hair Growth for Women and Men, Face and Body with 5 Energy Levels and 2 Flash Modes

Fairly simple to use, but there is several upgrades I would want.
The media could not be loaded. The overall feel of the device can be awkward for the first-time user. You need to have it plugged in and have the buttons to change the power and mode right where your hand rests. This can cause the issue with the wrong mode being selected or the power going higher. This is the first IPL I have used, so I didn't have much to go on for expectations. After looking over the instructions several times, I decided to give it a go. The instructions were confusing because there were different charts that had different indicators. There were a few different illustrations that showed where the icons were, but this still left me a bit confused. Because I have darker hair, this will not work on the lower settings. How do I know if I have already used this? I should start on the lower settings, but can I stay there? Will that work at all or do I need to go to the higher levels to get the results? What happens if the IPL causes my legs to rash or if the tingles don't stop? I started out by pressing the wrong buttons and sort of crashed through the first couple of moments. I was glad that I had not applied this to my skin yet. The glasses are not regular sunglasses, as I thought. These looked like glasses you would get at the eye doctor to get your eyes tested. I normally wear glasses, so I expected a bit of a difference like when I am not wearing glasses. These were blurry and made it even harder to read the icons to operate. Then the buttons where you tap to change the body part are right by the flash button, so that changed a few times because of the finger bumps. The flash was much brighter than I expected, so I was trying to look away when it was flashing, but then I couldn't see that the right mode was selected. The first time it flashed on me, I jumped. I didn't expect to get a little shocked by the brightness level of the light. After the initial fears were pushed aside, it wasn't bad. I do wish someone would have advised me of the sounds it makes with the fan, the brightness of the light, and the glasses. My first application was on the lowest setting, and my legs tingled for about four hours. The next morning there were a few red areas, but not anything too bad. After about three days, I did a second application on the lowest setting again. This time my legs tingled and the redness was not there the next day at all. I thought it may be the shaving, so I tried to wax and do the treatment a few days after. This really didn't change anything as to the feelings. I did one more session on level two, and the tingles lingered for the rest of the night, along with the same red marks in a few places. The main issue with this was the layout of the device. If the flash was off to the side or the modes, I would be able to look away easily. There could also be a better breakdown of first-time expectations. I would have also liked a few tips for how to prevent some of the tingles or the redness other than using lotion. Overall, this is not a bad device, just a little scary, but this is a simple fix for most.

Basic feature IPL with custom case. Medium power (48W).
There are a huge number of options for IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair removal devices on Amazon. What was only a few years ago a novel idea is now a very crowded product segment. The thing is, almost all these IPL devices offer the basic functionality of hair removal. Higher-end models offer such features as "ICE" active cooling and/or multiple filters for different effects. But if your focus is entirely on hair removal at the lowest price, to a large part, your decision can be driven by price. Then, among these lower-priced units, it will come down to ergonomics and power. There are two basic designs for these IPL devices: Oblong (like this one) or gun-shaped. I prefer the gun shape--it's easier to hold and control. But the oblong is OK. Button design can also vary. This model features a decent-sized flash button easily pressed when the IPL device is in your hand (see photos). This model is powered by a 48W power supply, which is mid-range for this type of device.Specifics of this IPL device:** Only performs hair removal.** NO ICE skin cooling functionality** Mid-power IPL (48W)** No LCD readout. Power level indicated by lights on top of unit.** "Oblong" shaped unit** The power cord attaches to the end of the unit (see photos)** No attachments to change the flash end shape** Rated for about 999,999 flashes, 5 power levels.Operation is pretty trivial:1) Attach the power cord to the IPL device and plug it into the wall (the device is NOT battery operated--you must have it plugged in).2) Turn on the device via the power button, which is on the side of the unit.3) Choose the power level to use (you have five levels, and you cycle through them by repeatedly pushing the power button. The level will be indicated on the LCD screen.4) Place the front end of the device against the skin you are trying to treat and push the power button quickly. There is a few second refractory periods after flashing before you can flash again. The light is extremely powerful and could damage your eyes with continued direct exposure. Therefore, you should never look directly into the light and a cheap pair of folding protective eyeglasses are included in the box. Using very slow-motion photography, I was able to capture a snapshot of the light (see photos). But the light duration is extremely short. You run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair and make sure you expose all the hair follicles in that region. You will not see any immediate results. The light signals your hair to stop growing, but it requires multiple treatments over several weeks before you will be expected to see results. Eventually, you should find a substantial reduction in the hair in the treated areas. In the box, you get the tool, a power cord, a custom molded zippeed case, a pair of eye protection glasses, a cheap disposable razor, plus instructions. No flash limit is noted, but I have never encounteed one of these IPL devices that wasn't rated to basically unlimited flashes, and I'd assume this is the same. This IPL device is higher priced than most IPL devices offering similar functionality. It does come with the molded case--which is unusual. But whether that justifies the larger price will be a personal choice.Pros:** Comes with custom molded zippered travel case** 48W power supply/IPL deviceCons:** Fairly expensive relative to other IPL devices with similar features** No ICE cooling** No additional focusing heads** Oblong shape not as convenient as gun** No LCD readout of flash number
