The product information might be conflicting, so hopefully I can provide enough information if you're considering purchasing. The product description suggested ordering up a size, but I suppose they mean if you are referencing the Amazon-provided size chart (never use that one, by the way, always look for the seller's size chart in the description or product info). Further down in the product description, they provide their own size chart, which is probably more accurate. I did reference this one, and ordered larger anyway as they suggested, when I apparently didn't need to.As suggested, I purchased a larger size. My waist measurement tends to be between 27-28, hip measurement about 35, and I purchased size 30. I probably would have been just fine with the 28, or even the 27. I'm 5'3" and about 115-120, with a pretty straight figure. These sat right at the widest part of my hips, and probably would fall off on their own if I tried to wear them. If I were to hold them a little below the waist (where I'd like them to sit) there is a good 4 inches of extra material.I decided to measure across the top of the waist with the pants laid flat, and it measured 16.5" across.The material is great though, it's a thick, heavy and soft cotton, and it's surprisingly cool. The hip pockets are very deep!I'm not sure about the cut though: it seems to be cut wider in the thighs and it tapers a bit toward the ankles and it gives a slight "penguin" effect. I have considered that this could be because the size is too large for me. It might appear as a straight leg cut if I try the proper size.I like the material enough that I'm willing to try exchanging sizes. I will update this review once I try a smaller size.UPDATED REVIEW:I re-ordered in size 28, which I normally would have ordered to begin with, but didn't because of the suggestion to order larger. (Photos with the green shirt are of the 28, photos with the black shirt are of the 30.) The 28 sits comfortably just below the navel. Laid, flat, it measures 15" across the top of the waist.This is definitely not a straight-leg pant as it appears in the product photo, or as it says in the description. The hip and thighs are cut significantly wider, and it tapers down to the ankle in an unflattering shape. I was looking for a straight leg pant, and this is not it.It's a shame, because it seems well constructed and I like the material, but the cut is just unfortunate.

First off: i'm 5'8, weight 170 - recently started fitting into a size 6 pants - but I usually am an 8.Secondly: sizing - well I just don't know where to begin. CONFUSINGThirdly: reviews were all over the place - hard to make a decision on which size to get.Despite the great confusion with reviews, some claiming too small, others claiming too big, I took the plunge because of the colors and the cut.And ordered an XL in both colors.I tried both of them on and they both fit, just perfect!!! Phew!!! There was a huge gap on the waist, but as soon as you pull on the inside straps the gap is gone.I was looking for a tomboyish sexy look- meaning I wanted these to fit snug around the hips, and loose down the legs, and I think I achieved that look - that is what I mean by perfect.If I had gotten a large, it would have never worked for me.My recommendation is, go grab a measuring tape and measure yourself.And above all you are subject to your LUCK w/ the sizing w/ these pants.I would lean on the side that you may need to order a size bigger than normal.I consider myself lucky, because both fit the way I wanted them to fit.Yes they are slightly tapered at the ankles, but it's only EVER SO SLIGHTLY - they are too baggy at the bottom to notice the tapered legs.Also the material is TOP quality. The red color is just as vibrant as in the picture - soo happy cuz that was the color was aiming for.A belt would have been nice w/ these - for the sake of style, but i'm happy over all.Deducted a star because of the major sizing confusion.

I am 5 foot 3, about 160. Thicker in the tummy but small straight hips. Normally wear a size 10 and 12 on average, after reading the reviews I ordered a 15 which comes out to a XXL. fits perfect on my belly and hips, doesnt hug me tight like I just got done with a Thanksgiving meal. However the length is a good 6 inches way too long so I have to use the ties at the ankle. Really loose on the legs all the way up and down like I like it. I tried to order this order one size down, a 14 (XL) to see if the hip fit was still bearable but the length shorter. The leg space is much better as is the length, but now the hip and belly area are tight fit. Not advised to sit down and bend forward as if to tie your shoes if you dont like the tight fit creating more bulging and digging into your stomach. So it's fine if you are tall and thick or short and thin but it's a bit challenging if you're short and more on the chunky side.

I ordered these for gardening. They are so perfect. I can cinch the bottoms to easily go in my muckboots, my phone and tools fit in the multiple large pockets, and they are a very sturdy, medium weight fabric. It seems like it would take a lot to tear these pants, I have already worked with stones and bricks in these pants and they are completely strong. They fit like a dream. Higher waist is awesome for staying put when bending over, and they aren't tight at the waistline or too loose. They have strings for tightening the waist, but I don't need them.I am 5'8", 150lbs, usually size 10 is pretty comfy for me. I ordered a size 30 in gray. They are the best fitting (and actually really flattering) garden pants ever. I'm ordering more colors.Update: I ordered the khaki color in the same size and they are too tight around the hips and the waist. What a disappointment! I am tempted to try one more color, in hopes they fit like the gray pair because for my height, these pants are very flattering (for work pants) and so useful with all the pockets and loops, etc.

I bought a L and I'm a size 10. This fits to size. Hope this helps.

I love love love these pants. First of all the color is perfect and all those pockets are actually useable. Now to go on to comfort. They fit well, mine are a bit big one me and I'm about 5'5" 160 pounds ish and I got a size 14. They're softer than i thought they'd be which is a huge plus and honestly i could wear them to bed and still be comfy. I highly recommend these pants. Great value too.
