Q: Why does the pump shut off automatically after a few seconds with a psi value of 6?

Not sure. Mine doesn’t do that. Sounds like a faulty pump. Make sure you set the target psi before you start the pump.

Q: The pump worked great the first few times it was used. But now it breaks the fuse on my cigarette lighter when I try to use it. Any idea why?

I have not experience this problem. I bought a converter with my pump and have used both a lighter and plug without incident.
