There are other cheap alternatives but they have disadvantages. This product is totally safe as hamster littering and bedding material also the seller provides additional chew toy sand some meshes to store food in it and let your hamster tear the wooden mesh and take out the food. it gives the hamster some time to spend for working to earn its food and removes boredom. Or you can put it in its house these meshes are kind of nesting material to sleep in. I have store some of it and this material remains fresh even after storing it for nearly a year(11 months). I mean storing it not using in hamster cage. As I don't need entire quantity currently. But this absorbs urine and does not causes iching in hamster. SO feel free to use this only safe wooden bedding available in amazon in India at affordable rate. The seller is really good.

Aspen bedding is so much better than the normal wood shavings we were using before because:1. It absorbs the smell and doesn't need changing as often2. Doesn't stick to the fur of the hamsters and prevents the skin infections hamsters get from other kinds of wood bedding.3. It is a lot easier to clean as compared to the other bedding.This is an excellent product that we will be using from now on for our pets! Aspen chip bedding has been mixed with aspen wood shavings and some aspen nesting material. I have kept the excess bedding etc. aside for later use)

It has a great soaking capacity doesn't let the cage smell for months a little bit tough so I would recommend to put layer of soft bedding above it for a happy hamster. Just soft bedding does not hold pee for more than 5 days . That is why I would recommend this method. But be careful if you order in bunch sometimes a little prickly.
