Hair Shampoo, EWG Verified, Plant- and Mineral-Based Ingredients, Vegan and Cruelty-free Beauty and Personal Care Products, Unscented, 16 Fl Oz

I have very sensitive skin, so when I saw this, I decided to give it a try since it’s marketed as extra gentle. It’s actually a bit of a surprising experience as it lathers and suds really well, unlike many “clean” or non-toxic shampoos/conditioners. The conditioner also feels great on my ends. You get that familiar, salon-quality feel, but with a cleaner formula that doesn’t irritate my skin. It also keeps my hair feeling clean for days, which hasn’t been my experience with some other “healthier” options I’ve tried. Has no smell. All that to say, I’ve really enjoyed this and will definitely purchase again.

The good: I finally found something other than hypoallergenic dish soap that I don't react to! Woohoo! All over the counter shampoos were making my scalp itchy, especially at night it would get violently itchy to where I would pick until it bled, and even then it only made the itching worse. I would often see little red raised bumps that would go away when I would wash with the "safe" soap. This has been the first limited ingredient hypoallergenic shampoo (and am also trying their body wash) that I have tried, it has no methylchloroisothiazolinone or methylisothiazolinone (itchy m's) which I'm pretty sure is what I'm allergic to, and I think this shampoo has confirmed that. The bad: -It doesn't lather very well. It's super thick and takes a bit of effort to spread through your hair. Water helps to thin it and make it spreadable. -I'm getting weird residue?? It's like I rubbed a bar of beeswax on the back of my hair, or maybe the soap didn't get fully washed out, and I have super thick hair so that is a possibility but even on the top/outside of my hair? Doesn't make sense to me. But it's also only on the back of my hair, the sides/front are actually dry, which is fine because I haven't bought and used the conditioner yet (didn't want to spend the extra money if I reacted to the shampoo and had to throw it out.) I've had increased oil production from dermatitis/allergic reaction, but never have experienced this waxy residue before. I do think it is much more tolerable than itchy oily hair though, but I wish it didn't have this problem.

I really wanted to love this shampoo and conditioner combo. While I appreciated that it was truly fragrance-free, that it helped with the hair fallout so many other products I tried caused, and that my hair looked more full and healthy after styling, the truth was always revealed when I used it by itself – no other products or styling tools. My hair felt like straw, it made my scalp itch, and I had to wash my hair far more frequently than I prefer. I might still recommend it to others who are looking for "cleaner" on a budget. But I'll also probably warn them that if they do, there's a good chance they'll experience what I did.
