THROW THAT CRAPPY MANUAL AWAY THAT YOU GOT WITH THE CAMERA AND GET TO KNOW YOUR CAMERA INSIDE AND OUT WITH FRIEDMAN'S BOOK. IT'S SO IN DEPTH, CLEAR, AND TEACHES YOU MORE ABOUT YOUR CAMERA AND PHOTOGRAPHY THAN YOU WOULD IMAGINE. EVEN THO ITS SEVERAL HUNDRED PAGES LONG, I STILL CARRY THIS BOOK AROUND WITH ME EVERYWHERE I GO AND SHOOT TO REFERENCE. IT'S HELPED ME THROUGH MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SHOOTING ENVIRONMENTS.

I normally don’t write reviews but I have no reservation in recommending this guide. I recently purchased a Sony A99II, now Sony builds a great camera but their operating manual and help guide leaves a whole lot to be desired. Wanting to understand all the cameras features I abandoned the Sony written material and started looking for a third party operating guide. I found the Friedman manual online and was a little concerned when I saw it was 600+ pages but very glad I purchased. The book is very well done, organized, informative, really a fun read and will be a great future reference when needed. His examples are real life, understandable and usable.

Everything you need to know and a lot didn’t know you needed to know. The best feature of the book is that the information is available in multiple levels. There’s the basics section, that actually covers everything quickly, then a more in depth look at the info in the expanded section. It’s nice to be able to pick the level of info you need about a particular topic and go right to it.

I am almost through all 619 pages, it took me 3 days full time... I discovered so many new features and tricks, this book is invaluable. For example, I always wished the camera had a fast culling function. And through this book I learned it has! Though it is time consuming to go through, with an advanced camera like the a99ii, it requires some training and this book does a very good job bringing out the best of both camera and photographer.

Well written - if you take the time to basically go through his course you will know a lot more than you did when you started. No brainer to support this sort of book and follow up videos.

For every Sony Camera I have owned, I've also owned Gary's book for it. Hands down, his books are the most complete way to get the most out of your camera.

Hes a great photographer and he has an informative book but to get in black and white was a surprise as I wanted a color book. Still a good read.
