RovnerLigature & Plastic Cap for Alto Standard Saxophone - Versa Ligature for Hard Rubber Mouthpiece (V-1RL)

Well I was a little unsure about buying this ligature, but upon receiving it I was extremely impressed with improvement in my tone and control. I am a recreational saxophonist and only have been playing for a year now. I wanted an upgrade from the stock ligature that came with my alto. After playing with this ligature for the past month, it has broken in nicely, making my sound much more smooth and precise. I would highly recommend this ligature for anyone. The versatility is unmatched, it is like having 6 ligatures in one. The cloth flaps really add a nice warmth to your sound. While putting them under the metal really brightens up your sound, I will also say that since getting this ligature, I've been using the same reed for about a month now, with playing 3-5 times a week for at least an hour.

This changed my world. I am a beginning Alto Sax player. I didn't realize what a big difference a ligature could make until I bought this one. Highly recommended!

I have been playing alto and tenor sax for about 20 years, on and off. From High School Band to touring Jazz Ensembles, to University orchestra, and gigging at clubs. I've tried a lot of gear over that time! I've owned the most economical mouthpieces and ligatures, right up to the priciest stock pieces on the market, and I must say: this is a very reliable, very versatile, great sounding ligature. I don't really prefer a lot of the more basic Rovner products, such as the "Light", "Dark" or even the "Mark III", but these "Versa" models (and the pre-existent "Eddie Daniels II" models) are great.With the six slightly different setups this mouthpiece offers, you have a lot of help creating the sound you're after.I would say these are worth it, hands down.

I am using this with a Rascher mouthpiece and my Yanagisawa 991 alto sax. It replaces an older ligature which I bought used, but appears to be a Rovner Dark. I am amazed that a ligature could make such a difference, and am thrilled with the Rovner Versa. Every note seems to play more easily, but especially low and high notes. I have never before enjoyed playing the sax so much, because it is so much easier to play now, and sounds so great. So far, I have only tried the Versa as it came in the box (setting "H" as listed in the supplied Ligature Guide, with the fabric flaps over the cradle holding the thicker insert).

I started playing again after many years off. I tried this ligature and hated it at first. I found I needed to set an old reed on and leave it between practice sessions. the cap was hard to get on until it broke in too. that took around 3 weeks.I think its an OK ligature but I find it somewhat hard to see the full reed placement since it's covered by the material.

I've been using the same Versa for several years with a Meyer hard rubber alto mouthpiece, and it's held up perfectly. It's easy to put on and adjust, and once it's in place it doesn't slip. It's a first-rate product.One question, which has nothing to do with the Rovner: why does Amazon list this as an "accordion accessory"?

This ligature can produce up to 6 sounds and it accommodates all types of groups!The thick metal with no flaps produce a fantastic bright sound for jazz band and without the thick metal and with the flaps on, it produces a dark, rich tone that is capable of blending in well during classical symphonic band.I highly recommend this, however, the ligature might take some time to stretch out and fit on some of the mouthpieces.Until then, it might be a hassle, but after that, it surely blows everyone away.Buy it, best 40$ i've ever spent on a saxophone, and trust me, I've spent a lot.

Bought this for my 15 year old son. I don't know music or instruments but he assured me that he really needed a new ligature. I must assume that this worked perfectly since he never said another peep about it after he said, "Thanks". I suppose that's the best a dad can hope for.

I'm becoming increasingly frustrated at mistakes and missing parts from orders I place.The ligature itself is of very good quality and feels as though it will last a long time.On opening the package, the box inside was open and and an insert was missing, not the kind of service I expect, especially when the ligature is an expensive purchase.Customer service from the manufacturer, Rovner, however, is exemplary and a replacement was arranged within minutes.

This is a reasonably-priced ligature. If you're using an old-fashioned style ligature (maybe the one that came with your sax), this will will make playing easier and clearer and smooth out your sound. I love it for these basic reasons. The ligature has two small metal bars that can be interchanged. The thicker bar give a darker sound. I find the thinner bar works best for me, giving a brighter tone (that can be darkened by other means). So far, the metal bar stays in place. I have the same ligatures for my tenor and soprano. For some reason, on the tenor, the little bar slips easily out when I loosen the ligature. When you're at a gig, it would be easy to lose; I've had to institute serious preventative practices.The ligature can be placed on the mouthpiece either "inverted"—it looks upside down from basic ligatures—or in the "pin-on-reed" position. I prefer the recommended inverted way. This makes the metal bits and the bar push more evenly and securely on the reed. The single screw is a breeze to adjust.

I was really blown away with the clear sound and responsiveness I got the second I installed this ligature. You may think the price is high for a little piece of rubber and some metal bits but WOW is it ever an engineering marvel!I can now reach the alitissimo range with ease when using a synthetic reed. The metal bar really helps with clarity and makes for smooth easy playing and even tone. I have no regrets for buying this lig and wish I had done it sooner.
