It generally does as advertised: simulated sunlight, then grow light, then off. But mine seems to go in 10-11 hour intervals and there's no way to adjust it. I have been using it to provide light to my bonsai tree, and would love to adjust the timing of the lights rather than a one-size-fits-all setting[EDIT]I've had this for about two months now, and it seems like the grow-light just wants to be on forever. The sunlight setting lasts for 9hrs, and the grow-light is lasting for more than 14hrs, and the off-cycle is 10hrs (so, about 35hr per cycle). I like automation, but having off-kilter timings like this isn't good for bonsai trees.

This is a good looking plant light but not impressed with the timer. After 8+ hours it does switch to the red/blue spectrum light but beyond that one change it doesn't work reliably. It doesn't go off or come back on with any consistently at all which makes it pretty useless if I want to go away for a few days.

Has been using it and I start to see the growth of my tiny plant and it was satisfying.The auto 8-hour shift of lights is good and wonderful.Only downside is that the intensity of the light cannot be automatically adjusted, you have to adjust it manually.

I got this to add to my work desk/office. It works just like it says, and my plants have grown like crazy. I have had hundred of compliments on it, I even bought another one for someone else. I would def recommmend and will probably purchase more of them.

This is a great little light. Its size and design are perfect for a small plant or garden. My only complaint is that the 8-8-8 system doesn't work very well. The white light goes on for 8-12 hours then the grow light goes on for 8-12 hours and then it goes off for 8-12 hours. I wish the timer was more precise, if it was I would give this 5 stars.

I bought two of these and turned them into hydroponic units using rock wool cubes (six different kinds of herbs in each). Fits six cubes per unit. My herbs are coming up GREAT from seed! Much less expensive for two vs. ONE Aerogarden! VERY PLEASED!
