10 Gulab Jamuns: Counting With an Indian Sweet Treat

So many things to learn...
I bought this book for my preschool class as one of the books to read in our multi cultural week. I am impressed by the simple concepts of counting and subtraction that were weaved in the simple story with a bit of a parenting tip. When the children ate the Gulab Jamuns that were meant for the guests, they knew that they had to help their mom make another batch for the guests as she did not have the time to make them all by herself. This book does a splendid job of representing multicultural food and culture. Teaching little children to help around with the chores is a good lesson instilled in them. Although the recipe of the Gulab Jamuns is in the book, we bought the Gulab Jamuns from the author's store for the children to try. I also downloaded the free printables from the author's website to use it as worksheets to go with the story.

Mouth watering read!
My two young boys loved this book! Whether you are of Indian descent or not, this was a fantastic read that had the added twist of engaging my five year old in addition and subtraction. The illustrations are fantastic and the story is quite engaging. After we read the book, I commented that I needed to ask my mother in law how to make gulab jamuns. My five year old piped up, "or you could just use the recipe in the book. " :-)

Sweet book
Very cute book. Teaches logical subtraction in a fun way. It is also nice to see more cultural representation in these types of books, where culture isn't necessarily the main focus.

Great Book for Young Kids!
I got this book as a holiday gift for my son and my nieces (three kids ages 2, 2.5, and 3). They loved it!The illustrations are adorable. The kids loved counting all the items (the gulab jamuns in the bowl, the samosas on the plate, and so on). The story is cute and works very well when reading aloud.I love seeing diverse books, especially about Indian-American kids. This book explains what gulab jamuns are and even includes a recipe to make at home!

A favorite for my Gulab Jamun loving kiddos
This sweet story follows two brothers who are tempted by their moms fresh Gulab Jamuns. My boys love reading about Idu and Adu and the disappearing Gulab Jamuns. We also enjoy counting all the gulab jamuns in the bowl as they start to disappear. The illustrations pay attention to so many small details and the boys enjoy pointing out the other fun foods on their dinner table. Perfect addition to our bookshelf.

Great children's book
Beautifully illustrated. There aren't many children's books in English easily accessible to the Desi diaspora that can represent us well to children, but this is a great example of one that does. The recipe at the end is a super-fun, creative addition. Would highly recommend
