Sansevieria Sam Moves to Bloomsville: A story about how a plant deals with a school bully

A fun book to read and really liked the illustrated plant guide! Purchased for the recent National Read A Book Day.

I had the wonderful opportunity to purchase the book about Sansevieria Sam for several children in my family. The storytelling was very good with a creative use of the characters and their plant names. I really loved how the author, Tina Hom, shared brief facts about plants.The illustrations were excellent with nice detail. The author and illustrator were really creative in making a topic about plants and science fun and easy to follow. I loved the plant with the sunglasses drinking rain soda.Lastly, the glossary and plant portraits were a very creative idea. This book is a must for any child to learn all about bullies in school, plants and for adults who may need a little reminder about plants with fun facts.

Not only did we really enjoy the tale (and fall in love with the main character, Sam) but we also appreciated the glossary and plant portraits section to help us lean more about plants. The maze in the back is fun, though the best part is trying to find the hidden lady bug on each page! It is very clever and thoughtful! My son and I bonded over the lady bugs. : ) Your entire family will enjoy it. We even have a cut-out of Sam hanging in our kitchen. : )

My kids loved another book the Author wrote, “Zen Pen This” and thought we would give this one a try. They absolutely love this book. They both love the art and storyline that they could follow very easily. They did like how the character was able to handle the bully in the story. Also, I liked it because they did not stop reading it until the very end. What I found interesting was that every character was a plant that was actually a real plant. The author adds information about each plant at the end of the book.

This is such a wonderful book! My daughter (age 9) and I both love it. The messages about bullying and kindness are great, and the plant humor is fun! We also really like learning from the plant descriptions and the glossary at the end. A perfect book to buy for all of the kids/families in your life.

My son got to learn about all these interesting plants semi realistically illustrated in this fun book.The illustrations are cute and easy to understand and I really appreciate the smart story showing kids how to deal with school bullies. I highly recommend this book!

Great book with a simple yet important (as well as kind) message about bullies delivered in a way that kids can grasp easily. Beautiful illustrations. After the story there is a glossary with plant terms as well as an informational section called “plant portraits” with fun facts about each type of plant you come across in the story.

It’s creative and chock full of fun plant puns that I wish I were clever enough to come up with 😆🪴 Honestly, there aren’t enough kid books that tickle my punny bone so I definitely appreciated that. My kids loved finding the ladybug on every page too!

I thought that this book was going to be just about how to broach topic of bullying but I love how informative it is about plants too! Would highly recommend! Now to buy more plants!
