Cute for YA readers
I got this for my daughter’s impromptu “book club” between her and some classmates. They all loved the book!

Cute Romance
A cute little romance book that features ballet and even has actual French words and sentences here and there (one of the reasons why I bought the book as I like reading and learning about France and studying French. Don't worry, there is only a tiny bit here and there and is pretty basic, so great for beginners). The main character is a dancer when was invited to go to this summer program in Paris and also trying to find out if the story of one of her ancestors was true or not. During this time, she also meets this guy. Recommended for young girls, those who want to read a story set in France or into ballet.

Cute romance, especially for dancers!
I received an eARC of this from NetGalley and Delacorte Press. My thanks to them! This is a very sweet, quick romance that I'm sure most YA romance fans will speed through. I read it in one day, mostly in one sitting, and enjoyed a lot of it! The settings are all wonderfully described and incredibly picturesque. It's a romance set in Paris and it's not afraid to lean into that, cliches or cheesiness and all. I was right there with Mia through so much of this, whether dancing in a studio or wandering the city. The good: I'm really happy to see a ballet story that doesn't need an eating disorder plot. There is the question of how to keep your hobbies fun even when you're at a higher level like this which is so important for teens trying to make their lives around their extracurriculars, but without diving into the usual storylines of it. While EDs are obviously all too common in elite dance and sports, I think it's also important for teens to see stories of dancers without them. I also love the rivals to friends trope between Mia and Audrey. It was expected, but still very sweet! The not great: There is a scene about 20 pages from the end (you will know the scene, I promise) that was just.... Very sudden and kind of throws a wrench in the overall tone of the book. While I understand what it was doing for the plot, it felt very unnecessary and in some ways, really does a lot to undo some of the work that Mia did to help gain more agency over her own life. I just wish there had been a little more thought about other alternatives to get the plot moving along in the same way. The whole cast is also very, very white and cishet, except for the occasional side characters who are POC (and only really there to help move Mia's plot along) and maybe one throw away line about a possibly queer but maybe not dancer. I can tell that the author realizes the need for more diverse dancers (Mia briefly reflects on it at one point) and I wish there had been more done to actually reflect that in the cast.Overall, I think this could have used a little more care in keeping the right tone through it all or in being a little more sure of what story it really wanted to tell, but I did enjoy it and I'm sure that young dancers in particular will love it

AN AMERICAN BALLERINA IN PARIS C'EST BON!
This is a charming, delightful, smartly written book the chronicles the Paris romp and adventure of Mia an American studying in an intensive ballet summer program in Paris. She is chosen to be Odile the black swan in the ballet Swan lake and her rival Audrey is chosen as the white swan queen. Mia meets Louis a handsome French boy who is the son of her ballet master and they keep their relationship a secret. MIa also is trying to solve a mystery. She believes her great, great, great grandmother was a French ballerina who is portrayed in a Degas painting. She and Louis set out to solve the mystery all the while while Mia and her rival Audrey, who becomes her friend, practice, practice, practice for the the performance of Swan Lake for the apprentice program directors who will be watching the performance and recruiting for ballet companies (The Bolshoi, The American Ballet Theater etc.). I don't want to give away the end but KISSES AND CROSSIANTS is a Paris travelogue and this was an emotionally driven novel of young love and ambition set in the City of Lights. TRES BEIN!

Bonjour, Paris! 😍
This book was a fun, light-hearted YA rom-com. It made me fall in love with Paris all over again, allowing me to relieve my own experiences there (Yani). I even learned of new places I didn’t even know existed. The Promenade Plantée served as inspiration for NYC’s High Line elevated park, and it’s a place I’m adding to my bucket list next time I visit ParisMia comes to Paris to follow her dreams of becoming a professional ballerina in one of the most prestigious ballet schools in the world. While doing so, she meets charming Louis who comes as a lovely distraction, showing Mia the beauty of Paris on the back of his vespa. Together, they embark on a lovely summer adventure.I loved everything about this book up until the last 5 chapters. For those that already read it... I won't lie, but I felt that part of the ending was a push of a twist that was completely unnecessary. Like... leave me with one of those happy ending cliches and I'll be satisfied. All in all, a very cute story!

Ballet, Paris, Romance & arte
