Works well but some issues
Used it to monitor my garage fridge/freezer and indoor fridge/freezer. I noticed with the cord shut in the freezer door in the garage that section started to ice up where the cord entered. So it will create a gap on some fridges - beware if left for more than a day or so about this. For using to monitor indoors just letting the probe sit loose in the freezer/fridge will give strange results. IE: if I just let it lay loose in the freezer I was getting -14F to 6F as the freezer went thru defrost cycles. But if I wrapped the glass probe in some cloth covered gel packs the temp stayed near 0 and much more consistent so be aware of this. You need something that won't move the temp so fast for the probe part to sit in. The small glass bottle can still give false results if air blowing over it I suspect. I tried in a mostly empty freezer for my test of a repair. Thankfully my repair worked but my measuring technique using this probe was not correct. Need more mass to hold the temp steady for measuring.

Functions as expected
I need a scientific grade thermometer for my workplace. It had to come with a temperature probe and calibration certificate. Although I found it online, I ordered through Amazon for the fast delivery and reasonable price. The unit functions as expected, came with a calibration certificate and probe. It also come with a magnetic mounting square and a foam mounting square.I deducted one star because after only 2 weeks the magnetic mounting square does not stick to the unit. So this expensive unit will drop off to the floor and drag the attached temperature probe with it.This unit only has a life of about 1year and it’s more expensive to send it to Thomas scientific for recalibration than it would to buy a new one. That is an absolute waste.

Saved My Food
About 7 years ago after we lost a lot of food because our freezer quit. I purchased this thermometer because I wanted to avoid the same experience again. I've been using the thermometer for the past 7 years and most of the time it just gives me peace of mind because I can look at it and verify that my freezer is staying in the temperature range I expect. However, last week the thermometer alarm went off. My wife had gotten something out of the freezer and hadn't pushed a drawer all the way back in so the door wasn't completely closed. The alarm warned us before anything started thawing and we were able to correct it. The thermometer seems relatively expensive but one save like that easily pays for itself.I saw someone else comment about the batteries still going strong after several months of use. I don't remember changing mine in the past 7 years. Maybe I did and have forgotten about it but if I did I'm sure it would have been just once, at the most. In fact, I'm going to change it now so I don't lose food because of a dead battery. I just checked the instructions and there isn't an alarm to warn you to change the batter. The instructions say to change it if you start getting erratic readings or the display is faint, which neither one is the case for me. It uses a single AA battery.

certifiably accurate
Laboratory tested and calibrated, the design of this system is as good as it gets---at least for the lay public. My old refrigerator was telling me that it's temperature was holding at the set temps in the refrigerator (38-degrees) and the freezer compartment (0-degrees). This device showed that the actual temps were 7 or 8 degrees higher and gradually rising. The 11-year old fridge was not worth investing in a new compressor so we got a new one with a French door design and an extra center drawer. I then used the Thomas thermometer system (for several days) to check out the new fridge, which passed with flying colors. The Thomas device is similar to a thermometer I use to cook things like prime rib roasts---with a probe inside of the meat that sends the temp info along a cable connecting to a gage outside of the oven. The Thomas device informed me of some things I did not know about going on inside the refrigerator. I learned that the temperature inside the door section was about 4 degrees warmer than the rest of the fridge. Our milk no longer gets put in the door but in the center or rear portion of the fridge where the temps are uniformly the coldest. I returned the thermometer device to its box for the next time we, or friends, might need to use it. Because this is one of those electronic devices that may not be used again for years, you should remember a special precaution. Before storing it, remove the batteries. I learned about this the hard way when I lost an expensive piece of equipment from an acid leak of alkaline batteries that were left too long in dormant storage.

Easy to setup and use
We got this thermometer after reading everyone's reviews. It is really fantastic to be able to see exactly what the freezer temperature is. Because it's tempered by the liquid, the alarm won't sound every time you open the door. It's a great setup except for the wire. We notice that there's a small breech in the freezer door seal where it has to go on top of the wire. It hasn't affected the temperature of the freezer, but there is a bit of ice buildup in that spot. Has anyone resolved this problem? Except for the wire door seal problem, I would say this thermometer is close to perfect. Hopefully it is built to last.Warning: if you don't read the instructions, you might miss the fact that it needs to be reset if you want to change it from Fahrenheit to Celsius or vice versa, or to set the parameters of your alarm. Other than that, it was a breeze to set up. Good product!
