Urgent and Out-of-Hours Primary Care: a practical guide for clinicians

THE BEST handbook for new UCPs/ACPs
Having spent hundreds of pounds on books recently to support my move into face to face, Out of Hours care as an Urgent Care Practitioner (I’m a trainee Advanced Nurse Practitioner). I found most books missed the mark and didn’t give me the concise or relevant information I needed. This is not a detailed or in depth learning book, so make sure you have your basic consultation and assessment skills. However, it acts as a fantastic, small, handy, quick reference guide. Firstly, I identify the probable diagnosis, find the relevant chapter and then I check the presentation detail matches the symptoms of the patient. Then I follow the management plan. It even gives medication ideas, even though you need to follow your local policy. It also points out red flag symptoms and highlights when a patient ought to be referred to another service. An EXTREMELY helpful book, that fills a large gap in the market. Well done Dr Bupal, you’ve given me immense confidence in my new role and I’m very thankful for your publication. Thank you

Excellent
There are times when you read a book and you get the feeling the author really understands the subject and is an expert. I certainly had that feeling with this book. Its concise, relevant and practical. No superfluous fluff here.

A refreshing format
This book punches above its weight with common clinical conditions described by speciality. Each avoids the soo annoying bullet point format ie Symptom Sorter yet provides solid information without preamble. Format is balanced and well presented so a pleasure to read. Never a substitute for the Oxford Handbooks (not on 1st edition) but a nice accompaniment for the GP register dipping their toes in Urgent Care or the Advanced Paramedic looking to refresh.

Excellent booking filling a gap in the market
This is a really well written book; concise yet full of useful information without going into unnecessary details. The compact size means it is easy to take wherever I am working and also easy to quickly find information when needed. There are several excellent books on the market that cover minor illnesses and others that cover emergency care. This book is a quality addition that fills the void in the middle of the spectrum.
