Stunning and sweet book
This book is so sweet and educational, and the illustrations are absolutely stunning. I got it on sale for under $6 and that was a steal! I would pay full price for this.

Perfect for farm kids and homesteaders
Love how many parts of the farm are mentioned. Perfect to begin the conversation about the winter season for little ones (purchased for 2 y/o).Pictures are gorgeous and story is relatable, especially for homesteaders and small farms.

Absolutely Perfect!
I bought this book based on the few sample pages and what a treasure it turned out to be!!!! I can not say enough good things about this charming, oh so true, story of preparing a farm for winter. As a market grower and artist myself, I was absolutely delighted with both the narrative and pictures. The artwork is perfect for expressing the mood of the season. Echoes of The Oxcart Man and Good Night Moon will vibrate with anyone familiar with those two classics. There are lots of details for the looking in the text and illustrations. I loved that this book does not dumb down the vocabulary of vegetables, making them generic mush. Kale, Mizuna, Spinach, and Garlic are grown in the throughout the coldest months. Diversity on this organic farm is expressed in the scope of enterprises including bees for pollination and honey, chickens for market eggs, garlic braids, root vegetables, strawberries, maple syrup, and much more. There is also cover cropping!!! I would venture to say adults will be as captivated by this beautiful book as the children. Purchase the hardcover so it can be handed down for generations of delighted recipients.

A winner, clearly written by an actual small farmer
This book was full of very specific details that by the end of the book left me thinking, "Hey, I'm pretty sure the author runs a farm!" Sure enough, they do. Cool! Great illustrations, really nice book. I think it's my favorite farm book.

One of the Best Children's Books!
I highly recommend this book for the young members in your family. We have four year old twin grandchildren for whom it is an ideal addition to their library. There are teachable subjects on each page. The frontispiece shows autumn leaves; the ends show snow and snowflakes as the farm transitions between Fall and Winter. Children can see how the various aspects of the farm need to be taken care of before Winter arrives. It shows how to take care of the equipment, protect the strawberry patch with a straw blanket, plant clover and rye to enrich the earth by replacing nutrients in the soil, and so much more. Mother cans food to tide them over the cold months and to sell at their roadside stand market. So much instruction shown in beautiful pictures and read in the gentle text. Wish I would have found this book a year ago, but our four year olds are greatly interested in it and have learned a lot. I'd love to give this book 10 Stars!!

Great book!
I was a farmer prior to having my first child 5 years ago, so this book is a favorite! It’s a very accurate story portraying how a family prepares their farm for winter and we return it to my daughter’s book shelf every autumn. I would recommend!

Awesome Book
This is a well-written, interesting book we’ve checked out from the library so many times that I simply had to buy it!My book had a smush/dent in the edge of the cover, likely received in transit. The packaging looked OK, but an envelope with bubble wrap interior would have been better. Be advised if you like your books in pristine condition.

Stunning
This book is just beautiful. The illustrations and the words, that read like poetry, connect you to the magic within the ordinary.Highly recommend. And, FYI, as for the review below that is angry at the book because they read the word “chinks” to be a (racist) typo - in this context the word is used in its original, true form - chinks simply means cracks/breaks (in the wood of the chicken coop)!

Gorgeous book, facts presented in a beautiful manner
This is a book based on an arable farm in the USA. Although the farming practises are not the same as here in the UK, it still gives facts about farming in such a wonderful way. The illustrations are absolutely gorgeous - they give you a feeling of the cold and crisp air in the Autumnal months. It uses American-English (Mom etc). My little one loves this book. As beef farmers in UK, we appreciate learning about farming practises across the globe. It has been written by a farmer, so the language has not be 'dumbed down' or incorrect terms used, which we find some farming books have.
