Excellent resource
One of the things that intimidated me about starting to paint with watercolors was how to mix the paints to get the desired result. This book explains a lot about color in easy to understand language, with examples each step of the way. I can see that I will return to this book again and again as I progress. I’m looking forward to putting what I’m reading into practice.

Finally I am on my way to understanding color theory
First let me say that I have several books on color theory. I have tried to plow my way through them to no avail. I saw on watercolorist Louise de Masi's website that she had recommended this book. Finally it is starting to make sense to me. The author reviews the importance of knowing the properties of your paint in relation to hue, depth of tone, translucency, staining and temperature bias and goes on to recommend various triads to aid as a starting point to developing your own limited palette. It is wonderfully illustrated with painting swatches and examples. The second half of the book is illustrated with the author's paintings and she reviews her color choices and why they work. This book is a game changer for me. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is attempting to understand the theory behind a limited palette.

Soan is one of my favorite artists
Beautiful book with great illustrations and explanations of color and what to expect. In fact, the main purpose various of limiting the number of colors is to minimize interactions when you mix colors that are already derived from multiple pigments. When very familiar with a few, you know what you'll get when you mix the. Her approach is a very loose style; mine tends to more realism, but the principles presented in the book will give freshness and prevent overworking. I have several of Hazel Soan's books and only wish she was available as a teacher.

A must have for all watercolorist
I’ve taught watercolor workshops for 30 years. Due to the cost of paints and supplies I wanted to scale back on my supply list for students to make things more affordable. Hazel Sloan has always been a wonderful teacher/painter…she knows her stuff. Beautifully illustrated book full of very good information for any level painter. The retailer was wonderful and the book shipped very quickly from the UK. Very pleased.

Książka pobudza czytelnika do własnej twórczości.
