Great case. Movie plays perfect.

No redeeming qualities
I used to think that "Harum Scarum" was the worst movie Elvis Presley ever made, until I saw this mess. It makes you wonder who actually greenlit this movie to begin with, why MGM bothered to distribute it, and how any of the actors in it ever got another job. I'm a huge Elvis fan and so just have to accept that for years he was stuck in these movie contracts made by his slimy manager Colonel Parker, who never cared that he could actually act. But even for a bad Elvis movie, this is hard to defend. Burgess Meredith grins through the whole thing for no apparent reason, and wears frosty grey eye shadow. All the native Americans are played by white actors wearing dark makeup, and all are portrayed as stupid. The government gives them cows and a bull to "expand the herd," but they're too stupid to know the difference between a bull and a cow, and so they eat the bull. They would have had to be blind as well as stupid not to notice that. Of course Elvis saves the day. There's a ridiculous subplot with Joan Blondell as the mother of a young girl who looks more like her granddaughter, and is also missing any discernable IQ. This girl looks like she's 14 years old, so when Elvis is kissing her it looks like child abuse. There's a lot of stupid fights, which are done like the Three Stooges, strictly slapstick. It's a testament to Elvis Presley's enormous talent that he survived this amateur drek, and went on to do the great '68 special that resurrected his music career. Do not pay to watch this movie. Even if it's free, it costs too much.

Nice widescreen release especially if you're French!
This is a review of Elvis 75th Anniversary DVD Collection (17 Films including Elvis on Tour / Jailhouse Rock / Viva Las Vegas / It Happened at the World's Fair and This Is Elvis) released by Warner Brothers.I am not a fan of Elvis so mainly bought this to add to my movie collection. I scored it for $57 but even at the normal $70 it works out at $4 a movie. Not bad so long as the quality was OK and in this instance it is.As one reviewer has already remarked, all the films are in 2.35:1 except Harum Scarum (1965) which is presented in it's original 1.66:1 and This Is Elvis (1981) which is presented in it's original 1.85:1 so do not be fooled by the 1.33:1 listed by Amazon. Most films run within one or two minutes of original run-times (IMDB) so no major butchering has occurred. There is an error on the packaging that lists Harum Scarum as 85 minutes when the original was 95 minutes however the DVD is the proper 95 minutes. The audio is fine on the DVDs I tested. Each movie is on a separate DVD with all titles packaged into 2 separate cases with hinged disc holders. There are a fair few extras although I didn't delve into those. The only down side of this package is the subtitles. Every movie is subtitled in French however only 10 of the 17 movies have english subtitles. I still can't fathom why you would produce a set of DVDs with an English cover and then cater for the French market with subtitles. It cost this release a star.I award this release 4 stars.

One of the best movie that Elvis ever made
Lights, camera, action! I enjoy a number of Elvis movies like Girl Happy (my favorite), Speedway, Blue Hawaii, Follow That Dream and this movie It Happened at the World's Fair. Yes, I know that they are lightweight and some critics may find them silly. However, when I want a movie that will make me feel lighthearted inside, to remember how much I enjoyed the beach when I was young, and to have beautiful scenery to look at, and great music to listen to, this is the type of movie that I reach for. I hope that Elvis Presley realized before he passed away how much joy he brought to others. Sometimes movies are not all about the drama and the deep thinking which has its place. Sometimes a movie just needs to entertain, and that is what most of his movies accomplished. They entertain you. No, it is not rocket science here nor was it meant to be. It's Elvis and his great ability as an entertainer. Sometimes we need to look past the forest in order to see the trees. We need to appreciate the gifts that people are given and enjoy what they have to offer. I think he would have been excellent in A Star Is Born with Barbra Streisand had he taken the part; however, the films that we do have will put a smile on your face, and a dance in your step, and a song in your heart. I pray that he found both peace and salvation in the end. May he rest in peace and may we enjoy the legacy he left behind in his music and his movies.

Movie arrived late, contacted seller. All is right in the universe now!
I don't know what happened, why the DVD was late, but seller was very nice and sent me another one as soon as I notified them. New tracking number, and DVD arrived on time the second time. Thank you.....I LOVE THIS MOVIE, AND I LOVE ELVIS!! Thank You. By the way, so cute, that I also really like Kurt Russell, the young boy who kicks Elvis in this movie to help him get the girl!! Very cute movie!!

disappointing
I didn't think there could be an Elvis movie I didn't like, but towards the end of this snoozefest I was checking my watch wishing it were over.A lot of the reviews here seem to be for other Elvis movies, which makes no sense. But anyway, if you're unfamiliar with Elvis movies, my advice is to watch Blue Hawaii and Viva Las Vegas.

Love Elvis!
I am a fan, so any movie with him I like. This is not my fav, but just seeing how he could do anything with such grace and gave everything his all, itis amazing to me how he put up with all the Colonel Tom & Hollywood controlling nonsense. But, he is forever the King to me, and his music is magic and never grows old.

GROOVY BABY!!
Elvis as a motor racing driver with the tax man on his trail. Only the 'tax man' is a girl - and none other than Frank Sinatra's daughter, Nancy. An entertaining movie overall, though it gets a little tedious in some scenes. And you have Bill Bixby providing some humour here and there as Elvis' wily flunky. Adding to the cocktail of tedium is some acting by children trying their best but obviously not 'child actors', thrown into the movie to make it sweet and 'family friendly.' Oh and an extra long ghastly musical number about tax and the tax man, the title of which says it all - He's Your Uncle Not Your Dad.On the positive, there are some good songs, with a fabulous LET YOURSELF GO and Nancy Sinatra's equally great YOUR GROOVY SELF - both dripping with late 60's fashion and easily being my two favourite. Elvis looks terrific, and his scenes with Nancy are occasionally funny and even charming.Though Bill Bixby overkills in a few scenes, his inclusion to provide the comedy is a bonus to the overall film in my opinion. A decade later he would carve out a hugely successful acting part as David Banner in The Incredible Hulk movie and television series. Nancy Sinatra on the other hand was already an established singer and was now trying to make waves in movies. She certainly does in this movie opposite Elvis - with her text book 1960s looks and sound, complete with platinum-white hair.Speedway is by no means Elvis Presley's best or worst, but recommended as a very pleasant musical comedy, with great picture and sound.

IT'S FULL OF BULL . . . !!
. . . . yes, but don't let the title of my review keep you away! This is Elvis' craziest film with a very loose and loony plot about Joe the bull-riding cattleman, and his loopy family and friends. And about a bull (I kid not).I found it a little hard to follow what's going on in between all the wrestling, fighting, and wild partying. And so will you but it doesn't matter. You will get a kick out of all the hilarity, the slapstick, and the ongoing 'horsing' around between Joe (Elvis) and his crazy friends (even a few of Elvis' real-life friends have parts in this film.)Oddly, there's just a few songs featured in this 1968 movie. Though they make fairly pleasant listening, they are written for the movie strictly, and apart from the title track none are much to write home about.Another thing that will not escape you is how fantastically good and slender Elvis looks. If there ever was an example of human perfection, you will find it here. Elvis really never looked better. His Cherokee blood from his mother's ancestry is also glaringly evident in this movie.Apart from the original theatrical trailer, there is no bonus material included in this dvd. Still, an all round pleasant and quite funny Western with beautiful Grand Canyon scenery. Just lose your inhibitions (and your mind) for ninety minutes.I recommend it.

HOW WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE - AT THE WORLD'S FAIR ?
If you're anything like me, basically an adult but with a child's heart, then you are going to enjoy this movie. And if you like Elvis, then you are going to love it.As with most Presley movies, this has an innocent plot, a few fights, lots of movie songs, and a pretty gal to win his heart. Enjoy the Seatle fair as it was in 1962 and Elvis being on the receiving end of two painful kicks by child actor Kurt Russell. The film looks dated now as do most of that era, but this doesn't take anything away from the film. In fact it adds to its attraction. And there's some very heart warming moments as well as a few chuckles here and there. This is a great light-hearted movie with a couple of well known Elvis songs, such as One Broken Heart For Sale. Elvis talks, sings, fights, loves, flies, fights again, and endearingly looks after a little girl.Get away from reality and escape into Seatle's fair with 27 year old Elvis - just for those ninety minutes.

Good Fun
Typical Elvis film from the sixties. Lots of American stock car racing, duets with Nancy Sinatra etc. Elvis fans will enjoy.
