Just what I was hoping for
Our old leather leash gave out after 15+ years of use. This leash is exactly what I was hoping for. Not like the flimsy leather leashes I'd seen in a couple of pet stores, or the nylon leashes that will leave you with a nasty rope burn if your dog pulls suddenly. It seems well made of nice, thick leather. I can't answer to the negative reviews about the leash emitting a strange odor or the color bleeding on to your hands. That has not been my experience. After two months of daily use with a 14-month old German Shorthaired Pointer walking 4-5 miles a day, it has been getting a real workout. Highly recommended.

Very nice, soft leather leash
I bought this leather leash for our new puppy that we will be getting next week. After our last puppy chewed through several nylon leashes, we went straight for a good leather leash to begin with this time. The leather is already very soft and high-quality, it won't need any "breaking in" to become soft and nice. The stitching is solid and heavy, and the clip seems very sturdy. This leash is much better quality than what we can buy at our locally-owned pet store, and one-third the price. The leather leashes they carry are very stiff, and start at $75.This is an excellent price for a very nice leather leash!UPDATE: 2/10/2020We have used this leash daily for 3 years now and it is still in excellent condition. Still very soft to hold in my hand, yet very strong to hold an enthusiastic Labrador Retriever. I have given this leash as a gift to friends getting a new dog and they love it, too. Very highly recommend!

BEST LEATHER LEASH I'VE FOUND
we have an 8 month old puppy who is 65 lbs and doesn't know his own strength yet. So we took him for training classes and they were using a leather leash on him. Once he was done training we decided to get a leather leash for him. Well we went looking at a few and found one that seemed a little cheap for the price. I didn't want to spend $40 on a leash that looked like it would break. Then we found one at PetCo but it was way too stiff and we didn't like it, seemed a bit plasticy. So when I found Leatherberg I was soo excited because the reviews were amazing. Once I got the Leash in the mail, it did NOT disappoint. We love it so much that we bought 2nd one for our other dog too. They are nice and soft and very strong. The leather makes it easy to grip onto the leash and it doesn't slide through your hands. They are FANTASTIC!

Acceptable but not as heavy as my old one
I purchased this same leash in 2016 and was extremely pleased with that one. It was very durable and showed no signs of wear for the 3 1/2 years I used it heavily. Unfortunately it was lost so I replaced it with what should have been the same leash from same vendor. However, the leather in the new one is definitely not as heavy, is not a full 3/4 inches wide, and is a bit short of the advertised 6 feet long. No better than the 5/8 inch leash I already had. It did not even have the feel of new leather. So this time I am not as pleased with the purchase. Since the description was the same, I expected the same quality. It has not broken yet, but I have no confidence in it. The photo I included shows the new Leatherberg leash (the shorter one) and my old 5/8 inch 6 foot leather leash. I would always rather see the price go up rather than to see the quality go down.
