Informative
This book is descent. The first loc book that I have read. It helped me a lot. I would like to read more to compare different perspectives. It talks about different types of locs, ways to start, natural hair solutions (shampoo, conditioner, and oil), how to care for locs, and what to expect from baby to mature locs. There are multiple interviews with individuals with different types of locs. This was also helpful.

Worth every penny!
I learned of this book while researching locs online. I started my braidlocks myself 9 months ago and needed a good reference for self maintenance. The price made me hesitate because I imagined the book to provide similar information as all the other hair books I had purchased for a fraction of the cost. I couldn't understand why it was priced so high and hadn't planned to spend so much. I contacted the author directly through a hair forum we both support. She explained that her book was informative enough to be used as a text for training professionals in loc installation and care. I decided to take a chance on purchasing the book because of the excellent input she consistently provides on the hair forum--I wanted to hear more of what she had to say. I wasn't disappointed. Her book includes a brief history of locs, societal perceptions, a scientific explanation of the process, product recommendations, recipes, tools for determining how to determine what kind of foundation will work well with a person's lifestyle and personality type, step by step maintenance techniques and options--all supported with pictures detailing the process. I loved the testimonies of different people with different forms of locs and the detailed explanation of their processes. I was inspired by all of the beautiful pictures. Had they been in color, it would have been difficult not to cut them out of the book for a display in my office. This book touched on everything I've ever wanted to know about the locking process and some things I hadn't considered. I highly recommend it.

good resource
i had traditional locs before and now i have sisterlocks. i wanted the book just because i like research and information. much of what is here you can find by synthesizing information from a variety of online sources but the value of the book is that it's all in one spot. for someone interested in locs but not sure what type are best for them this book is really valuable. it demystifies locs and allows the reader to understand what is involved for caring for locs. i would recommend this book but i agree, it would have been nice to have this book at a slightly cheaper price, one that is comparable for similar types of books.

Do you have locs? Then you need this book!
This book is the most complete source of information on locs that I've ever read. I started my own locs almost 2 years ago, and it was recommended to me. I wish I had bought it then, because it would have saved me so much work and setbacks. If you are entertaining the idea of doing your own locs, I really do encourage you to get this book. It will be more than worth the cost. It will probably even save you time and money, because you won't make the same stupid mistakes that I made in my first year.I don't think this book is exclusively for DIY loc'ers...It's also for people who either want to learn how to care for their hair, or want to transition to maintaining their own hair. It's very educational, and I am always consulting it when I have a loc problem. Without a doubt, this book is the reason why I haven't combed out my locs and started over. My locs are far from being perfect, but I do like them now. This book has helped me come a long way fixing my loc imperfections.

THE HOLY GRAIL OF LOCKING BOOKS!!!
This book is the bomb.com. If you are interested in information delivered in an easy to understand format this book is for YOU, if you are a loctitian who often finds yourself at a loss to explain the dreading or locking process--this book is for YOU...if you are thinking about locking and want to know your options this book is for YOU... and finally, if you just got locked and feel loss, traumatized, discouraged and wonder what the heck is going on, with your new locks at they mature and grow--this definitely is for YOU. I have recommended this book many times and have a library dedicated to natural hair, this book is almost definitive, but as I told many people about many more subjects, it is lacking in personal stories which are always helpful. Other than that and despite not having many locking journeys recounted, this is an excellent book and resource and I recommend it for professionals and anyone who wants to lock their hair or whose hair is already locked and they finally want to understand what all those lumps and bumps and frizz were about as they journeyed.

An Absolute Treasure Trove of Information about Locking!
This is more than I EVER thought I'd find out about growing and maintaining locs in one place. The sheer amount of information in this book...jeez!!! I started locking my hair a little over a year ago and have been maintaining my hair myself thusfar. Everything's going alright, but I wanted to know more about keeping my locs relatively uniform while preventing loads of fuzz and scraggly bits poking out from the shafts of each loc. With this book, I've learned so much more! M. George has put together information on the history of locking, the different methods of locking, DIY instructions, a bit about the cost of maintenance by professionals, the pros and cons of different methods, ingredients in common products we use to tend to our hair, etc, etc, etc. There's just so much here! I'm so glad I bought this book. I feel not only more informed about my own hair. I feel like I could help other people along their hair journeys as well.

A BOOK FOR ALL PEOPLE WITH LOCS/ DREAD LOCKS
I had wanted to buy this book for a long time, because I read about it online. The reviews were very good. I also saw a review of the book on youtube from this link below: [...]I have more than one book on locs, and I can honestly say that by far, this is the best one. First of all it has more than 250 pages of loc wisdom, from a writer who has locs herself. It's as the cover says, a comprehensive book on locs. You get a lot of info on this book. You get ideas on what of size locs to have, the different kinds of locs there are, different ways to start and maintain them, homemade recipes for your locs, how to maintain locs, even how to take down locs. There are also some black and white pictures. But would have loved more pictures, and in colour. So much info, and then some.I would recommend this book to everyone. To those who are contemplating locking their hair, to those new to locking, and also to those already on their loc journey.

Very thorough
I've only flipped through so far, but I'm honestly impressed by how thorough and well-written this is. Covers everything from considering getting locks to installation to maintenance and even takedown. Has some recipes for natural DIY hair products, and lots of pictures and interviews with mature lockers. I started my locs a month ago and I'm so excited to continue cultivating them with the advice from this book!

Meh
This was recommended by a lot of loc YouTubers. But I didn't find anything in this book that wasn't already on YouTube. Also I found the technique descriptions hard to follow. But maybe that's because I'm a visual learner
