Very informative and useful. Describes around 36 public parks and gardens. Lots of color photos.
Very informative and useful! It's a tour guide of the Paris public parks and gardens. Each park or garden is described in a short 2 or 3 page article, with at least one color photo attached. There is also a page in each article containing a short paragraph with descriptions of nearby features such as restaurants and other sites. There is also a two page map showing the locations of all the parks and gardens described. The only deficiency in the map is that there are no street labels -- you have to be somewhat familiar with Paris to follow it. On the other hand, each of the articles contains the address of the park or garden and also identifies the nearest Metro station.

Lots of great information on where to find the hidden gardens!
I'm really glad to have come across this book because I hear a lot about all the parks and gardens in Paris, but have really only visited the main ones that tourists see. So I was interested in learning about the less-common ones. This book seems to really give good information on those. My one criticism (which is why I gave it 4 stars) is that I would like to see more photos, to really give a feel for what each garden is like. Photos can convey so much more than words at times, especially with nature.

Needs more photos
I was kind of disappointed with this book. While it did contain plenty of useful information about secret gardens of Paris, I would have liked photos. Lots of photos. This book has very few pictures, and they are way too small. Paris is my favorite city. We just returned from a week long trip, and was excited to find the garden shown on the cover. We discovered it by accident, too! A book about secret gardens really does need to have plenty of pictures!

Wonderful Travel Guide
This book is a thoroughly enjoyable read and transports me back to Paris every time! When it is beginning to feel like my next trip to Paris will never arrive, I pick up Susan Cahill's well written book and enjoy a virtual trip. My copy has highlighting and Post-it notes everywhere. Why? Because as my return trip to Paris draws near, I begin my list of hidden gardens that I want to find. In doing this, I have discovered some wonderful neighborhoods and have come away feeling like more than just a "tourist". Thank you for a very well researched book!

New insights into Paris
I can't wait until my next trip to Paris so I can explore some of these serene garden settings. Just looking at the pictures brings back great memories and gives you a real feel of what Paris is like. There are many books out there that guide you to different areas of Paris, but this one is especially nice.

Taking a Break in Paris
After spending days touring the tourist sites in Paris, it is sometimes nice to have some "down" time in a lovely park, Many of the parks listed here are known to all. However, Ms. Cahill did find some places that I (a dedicated Paris-o-phile) didn't know about and which I intend to explore on my next trip.

Paris off the beaten track.
The book is beautifully made in top-quality paper. The author gives the historical background to the hidden gardens and the photos supplement the text. Lovely book to read and own

A unique guide for a self guided tour of some of the most beautiful places in Paris
I enjoyed this book. It is well written and the author displays a good knowledge of, and a love for, Paris. We used this book on our most recent visit to Paris and found it very useful indeed. For the lovers of gardens and quiet beautiful spots, this book provides something unique. She not only describes the garden and the history of the area, but she also gives handy pointers to local art galleries, restaurants etc.
