Fall Higher

Dean Young is one of my favorite poets, I loved this book. There are a lot of great ones in here. Not all of them are on the same level but the best more than make up for the weaker poems. I thought that Bronzed would be in here, I don't know why. It's my favorite Dean Young poem.

What makes a good poem, or a poem good? There is no definitive answer to these questions except to say that if, for you, the poem engages your interest and leads you to see things just a little differently, then, for you, the poem is good. For me, there are many good poems in this small book. Well worth the effort to read!

Dean Young's latest book of poems, Fall Higher, is a continuous work of art, young at heart. The poem "Elemental" is exemplary. Suggestive of a bilingual mind and mood, the poem has the attitude of victory over death. Young's matter-of-fact approach works well. A very modern poem.Allen Hagar

Dean is probably one of the most detailed poets of our time, who illustrates with words in the smoothest ways. Each page is a match, and his words are the striking spark for every moment he retold and how he set the reader’s eyes up for wanting more fire. Yes, his poems are that enlightening. His poems are fun, sensual, magical, political, a real deal, and I am very glad to have read each line. Thank you Dean Young.

This is a totally awesome book by a totally awesome poet! Lovely to see how language is used here, such amazing tropes at play right through. Anyone serious about contemporary poetics should get a copy to get a sense of this lovely work. 1000 stars!!!

Superb collection of poems,especially ' Lucifer ' which I used for a writing class,inspiring people to write about the dark side of their lives.
