Excellent! Highly recommend this new book by Lama Zopa Rinpoche!
Highly recommend! This is an excellent book by Lama Zopa Rinpoche on the sixth chapter of Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara, Patience. I think we need as many teachings on this subject as we can get, especially in such turbulent times. At least, I do :) This book is accessible, a quick read and addresses some of the challenges that we all face in our everyday life. I love his story about the mosquito! So sweet and kind. If you need help in this area, whether you are Buddhist or not, try this book out. It is a Dharma teaching book, but I believe most people, Buddhist or not, can benefit from at least some of what is in this book. Hope you will be as pleased and thankful to have read it as I am. AND, it has helped me develop some patience--something I have struggled with trying to develop for years. Stay safe! Be well! :)

Important root text, dogmatic commentary
Perhaps unintentional - reading through some motivated interpretations that question Westerner's work habits or Indian (assuming Hindu) rituals helps you develop patience with the author. Thats the real guide in this book.Dogma is dogma in any form - and it is surprising to have to resort to questioning why some Indians resort to "self suffering" in some rituals like walking on fire (same concept where some crucify themselves etc) - while the very next paragraph glorifies how Buddhist monks suffer from hunger during retreats because it is directed towards other's welfare. Such preposterous assumptions on motivations of others' practices and grandstanding makes it difficult to push through the book, but then again, it is a effective exercise in patience. Chapters 1 and 4 stand out for their poetic translation and well structured thoughts. But for a secular reader wishing to benefit from one of the best known classics of Shantideva, almost any other translation or commentary is a better resource.
