Amari and the Night Brothers — AMARI AND THE GREAT GAME

Disappointing sequel that lacked that magical spark
I was SO looking forward to the second book in the Amari sequence and ordered the hardback copy as soon as it was released.Sorry to say that this book felt flat from the start. The main problem, without giving away too many spoilers, is that the opposition to Amari and her talents did not make any sense, especially with regard to the League of Magicians. Would they really offer this prize to a young teenager who is sworn to secrecy? No. They wouldn't. Plus. "You know who" would never have escaped, even with magical help. The other opponents such as the wraiths and head of school were cardboard cut-outs with some very strange dialogue and flimsy motivation thrown in to back up their attitudes to magic.Without a credible opposition, the main premise of the story and the "game" does not work and Amari spends most of the book imagining worst case scenarios without adult support and being too scared to take action.Very disappointing.

A fantastic book!
Purchased for my daughter. She says it is a great book. The suspense created throughout the book was amazing, I loved it when we found out the assistant prez’s supernatural ability was to control people, it was AMAZING 🤩. Spoiler alert! I also loved the ending and can’t wait to find out if there’s a next book 📖, if there is a next book, I know that it will be AMAZING 🤩!
