Mountains and Philosophy
Messner is a genius in his field of expertise. His book has lots of black and white photographs to bring us the mountains, and his life, closer. A must read for any mountain climber and wilderness enthusiast.Ursula Tillmann, author of Undressing Shadows and Plato in the Mountains

Absorbed by this book.
I grew up climbing etc. in the Rocky Mountains in Alberta when Reinhold was at this peak. I followed him religiously and have many of his books. I went to hear him speak in Seattle many years ago. I've been successful in my own right. But I so admire what Reinhold has achieved. To say the least. This was a great and absorbing read. My intention now is to take my sons and daughter to the Messner Museums. A worthy objective.

For the Climber
This book is better suited for a climber. I have lived and climbed in Europe and the Himalayas but was only familiar with a few of the climbs he describes in Europe in the early chapters. The latter chapters discuss his Himalayan climbs and I found this part more interesting. Again this is a book that will be most enjoyable for a climber to read. I have always held Messner in the highest regard for his incredible climbing adventures. He is truly a superhuman and I did enjoy the book overall. The information he provides about his youth is new to me, most of the rest I have read about in detail in his other books.
