This is a well written and informative book for someone wanting a seat at the table in the C-suite. It outlines five essentials attributes for a successful career and provides practical tips and strategies for developing those five attributes; such as setting clear goals, staying focused, thinking outside the box, building strong relationships and bouncing back from setbacks. I found it engaging, easy to read and completely relatable. Even though I am further down the road in my career, tips like developing an "A team" remain meaningful to me as I continue to want to add value to myself and my company. More importantly, thank you, Carla, for providing guidance to those coming up after you.

Carla does an excellent job of describing the career journey through the five attributes to achieve a successful path. I liked how Carla shared her vulnerabilities through examples as she journeyed though her career. The is a must read for all and especially for women to learn from her successes and how she navigated road blocks.

What a great way to bring years of experience into a space where others can learn and grow! I was able to relate to so much about her early years and her career experiences. An abundance of authenticity and wisdom put into written words for others to read and leverage. Great book no matter where you are in your study or career journey..For those of you thinking about hiring a coach to help you navigate your career, I would highly recommend purchasing this book first and learning many critical components of being a successful leader and manager from someone who has seen much success and has had an impressive career.I've known the author for over ten years and her career progression has been impressive. Carla’s book has great insights and models that are extremely helpful to anyone in the process of growing in their career. Her stories are especially helpful. I enjoyed hearing about the situation where Carla and her husband Dave were losing their jobs at Shell Mining as the company was sold. She describes how she and Dave navigated the situation to both landed new jobs within Shell. Their teamwork is impressive. I’m also a geek for models and action steps. Carla provides some great models. I especially liked the model for “anticipating change to acting on it”.

I have been looking for a book about career development from an industry expert. Carla’s book was exactly what I was looking for. I was excited to finally find a career book written by a C-suite executive, Board member, O&G and finance professional.Reading this book is like talking to a professional mentor – it has so many examples of different job-related situations that almost anyone can relate to, including how to ask for a promotion and really get it, how to find and accept relevant opportunities, how to develop your strengths, and how to build A-class teams. Carla’s personal story is very inspiring since she became a self-made C-suite executive, starting as a girl from a simple family from East Tennessee. My personal favorite lesson from this book was about taking risks and letting others know what I want.I recommend this book to anyone looking to take the next step in their career and/or life.

Everyone at all levels of their career can benefit from the author’s relatable viewpoints.I highly recommend obtaining a copy of the book and starting your own journey of personal and professional career growth.

I loved Carla's book. Her writing style is not cluttered with a jargon or vague platitudes. Instead, she gives practical advice that anyone can follow, and she shares her experiences following the advice herself. For example, in the chapter "Ask For What You Want", she talks about how to frame a request for a promotion or raise, looking at it not just from what you want but from what your employer needs. She demonstrated how she applied that lesson to her own career when she applied for a promotion that on paper might not have seemed like a natural fit for her, but she spoke with her boss and made it clear that she could be successful if given the chance. And she was.She is never preachy, and her willingness to be honest about her successes AND failures makes her advice feel less like a lecture from some unknown person and more like a mentor talking directly with you.I recommend this book to anyone looking to take the next step in the career and unsure of where to start.

Das Buch ist leicht zu lesen, sehr gut strukturiert und kommt komplett ohne einen theorielastigen Unterbau aus.Sehr lesenswert!
