Backyard Dairy Goats: A natural approach to keeping goats in any yard

Wonderful book!
I really enjoyed this book and as I'm getting dairy goats, I found it very helpful and it's written by a homesteader who raises dairy goats. What sets it apart is it's written by someone who has hands on experience with dairy goats raising them holistically as nature intended with goat welfare and husbandry as a primary focus as opposed to books that are how-to indoctrinations written from the standpoint and practices of the industrial dairy/livestock complex.

Don't buy.
Firstly, this is written by an Australian so the plants and climate and bugs are different. Secondly, some of the diseases she mentions are notifiable in the UK and Ireland. I have kept dairy goats for many years and disagree with a lot of her home spun remedies in particular diaomocteous earth should not be used internally. Also, minerals alone will not prevent a contagious disease. She has some good cheese recipes and advice for milking and keeping goats in yards but don't rely on this book for animal husbandry. The paper is very poor quality and the black and white photos are poor. Definitely not worth the RRP.

Buy it. You won't regret it!
I love this book, and highly recommend it! It's great comprehensive information, written in a very down to earth, practical style, organized in a way that makes sense. I'm new to goat stewardship, and this book has been a huge help, to me, as well as helping to calm many of my husband's fears, too.

Good book
Good beginners book. I was hoping it would have a bit more of what to do with things don't go as planned. We've had goats for a few years, I was looking more for a care manual. Details on hoof trimming, milking and nutrient needs. The author is very passionate. I hope she continues to encourage peoples to goats. :)
