Beautiful pictures, nice approach
This book has beautiful pictures. And the approach is unique - a nice balance of practicality, a touch of permaculture, some foraging, and recipes.I like the foraging parts and the focus on growing what is local to your region. Seeds have a “memory”. So many failures are because we are growing things from seed sourced from the other side of the country - not in our brutal KS conditions.

Beautiful book on Sustainable living.
The book is absolutely beautiful and well-written. She literally thought of everything as if she knew what questions we would ask to get started on our own. This book is full of helpful easy-to-follow instructions on how to start homesteading. It has made me excited to start my own garden so I can start to live a healthier and more meaningful lifestyle. The recipe section is full of delicious food, I will be making the Dutch Apple Pancakes this weekend. I highly recommend this book, it's exceptional.

Start where you are, for where you want to be.
This book is exactly what I have been looking for! There are a ton of books about homesteading and “going back to the land” out there, but as a person who is probably a few years away from owning land I appreciated that this book has a start where you are approach.I do think it would be good for people who already own land too, it just didn’t make me feel like there was nothing I could do right now to start living more in alignment w my values. There is an extensive chapter on gardening and growing food, but the author also discusses Alternatives for people who don’t have land, like community gardens or simply supporting local farmers. Like I don’t have to grow it all myself to help create a more sustainable system. I can buy food in bulk from a farmer, save money, and preserve (there is a chapter all about preservation) it myself in my apartment and that is me being sort of a homesteader. There is a great chapter on baking sourdough bread and lots of recipes for using the culture as well (I didn’t know pre fermented grains were much healthier for you!) and there is even a chapter on foraging. There is also a section on starting a small business w a sustainable approach. It has beautiful photography throughout. This is going to be a go to book for me to gift people in the future! One of my favorites now.

I wish Roxanne was my best friend
I found this treasure at the library and was hooked by the intro. I was literally contemplating writing a blog with the same sentiments Roxanne wrote. Either we are soul sisters or more people are thinking about going back to simplicity and questioning this modern convenience culture. I hope more people are ready for a change! This book could be your inspiration. It has wonderful stories, beautiful photos, and is super accessible. The homesteading advice and recipes are easy to follow and make the whole endeavor sound fun and fulfilling.

Become a producer instead of a consumer
Whether you own land or not this book gives you actionable ways to be more involved in the production of your food. I have read lots of homesteading books and I really enjoyed this one. It’s not aimed only at people who own land, there are sections on food preservation, foraging, and baking with sourdough culture and you can do those anywhere at all! Interesting section on starting a business and also how to choose land if that’s the direction you are going. Never been a better time to know skills like these!!

Best book on homesteading I've read
As a homesteader of the past 11 years I greatly enjoyed this book. There's always room to learn and this book did just that for me. My favorite chapter isn't even mentioned in the book description. Baking and cooking with sourdough. It's something I've wanted to try but was intimidated by the process. I just baked my first loaf from my own starter and this book made it possible. 5 stars. Buy this book. You won't regret it!
