Not bad, but not exactly what I was looking for
I bought this based on the subtitle from "Abakua to Zouk" – I was interested in the Abakua end of things – Abakua as it turns out was in the title more just to provide an A in the A to Z.Given the richness of popular and "folkloric" Cuban music and dance, I was disappointed with the slim pickings on offer about Cuban in this book.I was also a bit disappointed at how focused the book was on looking at fine art dance (eg ballet and contemporary dance) .... and not so much at current and historic popular and folk dancing. It doesn't serve as any kind of comprehensive survey of dance in the Caribbean – it's more a variety of academic chapters on selected topics of the individual authors field of interest. At any rate, not a bad book, there are some interesting chapters and its not a bad look at some various topics.
