The Story Of Jonathon Hasbrouck and his Home that Washington Used for his Headquarters
I purchased this little book on the possibility that it might contain information of the functioning of Washington's Headquarters and the use of his Lifeguard while in Newburgh, New York in 1782. However, the book is really the story of Colonel Jonathan Hasbrouck, the owner of the house used by Washington, and the house itself over the years. As such it contained almost nothing of use to me. However, the book is interesting in that it casts light on a well-to-do patriot family from the French and Indian War to when the house passed out of the family's possession in 1850. If the reader has an opportunity to visit this historical site, this book would be a handy reference. However, it contains nothing of great historical importance, and can easily be read in an evening. The writing is clear and concise, but the coverage of the time during the Revolutionary War, 1775-1783, takes up only 25 pages.

Hasbrouck home was Washington's headquarters.
It was very well written and it gave great insight into the Hasbrouck family that owned the property that Washington used for his headquarters.

A home for the Revolution
I found that this book allows for a further examination of the people and the times before, during and well after the American Revolution. A single home was chosen to be the headquarters of the man that led the charge for freedom for the Americans. The various peoples are introduced with their personalities giving color to the history within. The house and it's owners, the Hasbroucks became legendary in their own rights.
