Love, Love This Filter!
Okay so... I have a 20 gallon temporarily for my 4 inch turtle. I accidentally bought the smallest of this tetra filter, so I bought the medium sized one in it's place. I had only had the tank filled halfway anyway since my turtle was only 1.5 inches at this point. Mind you I didn't realize how fast they grow, and had no idea that Its recommended to have a filter that can filter 2 to 3x the tank size. So I decided to keep both filters in my tank. One on each side. Even though I still don't reach the recommended filter size, my water now almost filled to the top, stays absolutely clean. Turtles are pretty messy so I still have to do the weekly cleanings and all that extra stuff that apparently those who spend hundreds of dollars on filters still have to do as well. I don't know if this is some kind of luck thing, I don't know if maybe my turtle just isn't that dirty (yea right, I see him)... but I'm actually not looking forward to switching out my filter for the 'recommended' filter size, as these filters work so good. I love them. They are both very quiet. Aside from the sound of the water falling back in.. I mean it sounds like a waterfall. Who doesn't want to hear a waterfall? I love it. This can also be prevented by raising the water level or lowering the filter itself. Basically the closer it is to the water, the quieter it is.Such a simple device, yet so beautifully sufficient. The little one stopped working at one point and I thought... welp there you go! Get what you pay for. But nope! Removed the base, pulled out the magnetic spring propeller and tube, cleaned it out and like magic it started right up as soon as I plugged it back in.Love how easy it is to replace the filters. The filters themselves are great and definitely hold on to some dirtiness. One thing I'll say is there is quite a bit of unused empty space. I now take advantage by adding some extra media, but I must say that these filters work great even without the extra.Love this filter and would recommend above any other filter.

Not for me
Works, but too bulky and noisy for meI really wanted to like this filter, but it’s too bulky in my 20-gallon tank and makes more noise than I expected. It does move water well and is easy to install, but not my favorite. Might be better for a larger tank setup.

Wonderful Filters for The Price!
I am rewriting my initial review to include the 3i model and 40i model.3i Model - I have two of these, and they do work. They are much noisier than the 10i model though, and currently more expensive, so if given the choice, go with the 10i. The 10i works perfectly in a 3 gallon tank, which I have two of and I have a 10i filter in each. Back to the 3i though, here's some pros and cons.Pros: Small.Cons: Bit expensive compared to the other sizes, loud, no suction cups (you have to clip it to the rim of your aquarium)10i Model - This filter is perfect for three gallon freshwater fish tanks. I use this in both of my betta fish tanks with no issues at all. Extremely quiet, especially considering one fish tank is right next to my bed on my nightstand and it doesn't bother me at all. I have recommended this to a family member, and they love it as well.Pros: Quiet (you have to press your ear against the tank to hear it), gentle flow (perfect for bettas), cheap, has worked fine with sand.Cons: None.40i Model - This is my most recently acquired filter, and I bought it as a second filter for my 46 gallon, which currently houses a breeding pair of convict cichlids, and I wanted extra filtration to accommodate for their fry. I am a bit worried that the flow is too strong, as it does create a lot of surface movement. It is worth noting, however, that this filter is fully submersed in the tank, but so are my 10i filters and they do not create a lot of surface movement. This filter is also very loud when you first start it up, but gets quieter after a while. I plugged it in last night and noticed how loud it was, but this morning, it's fairly quiet. Again, still not as quiet as the 10i model, but this filter is much larger, so that's excusable. Also, the blue "bioscrubber" floats out of the top of it when the filter is fully submerged. I somehow got it to stay down last night, and I'm not quite sure how. This filter also came with two suction cups, but for now, I'm just using the clip.Pros: Creates a lot of surface movement for fish who enjoy it, decently quiet after a while, cheap, comes with suction cups.Cons: Loud at first, may be too much surface movement for some fish, still louder than the 10i, looks large in my 46 gallon.Overall, my favorite filter in this line is the 10i, as I probably made quite obvious throughout the review. But they all work fine, and have kept my fish happy and healthy thus far.
