Small and informative
About the size of my hand and bendable since it's soft cover. Perfect to put into a backpack with tools and other equipment. Easy to see which minerals are found near me and gives good tips on where to look, what each specimin looks like, and how to identify what you find.I paired this with a few other rock identification books and kits for my 16 year old sister since she's getting into geology.

LOVE this Book
This book is great! I am really glad I made this purchase, I use it more than the other books I have for Wisconsin rockhounding. I am constantly using it when I go looking for samples, it is incredibly helpful and small. I love the way the book is set up (see pictures) and how organized it is. It is alphabetized so looking for a rock or mineral is pretty easy. The book shares information on the environment to find rocks, what to look for, their occurrences between the different states (as shown in red in the upper corner) and some history about their formations or something else that's interesting. As far as the occurrences goes, for example, the aquatic fossils, it says their occurrence is uncommon but it is easy to find crinoids and fossil coral but I have many specimens and see them all the time at Lake Michigan. But the only thing I wish this book had is what the rock types are. Some rocks have their rock type identified in the notes portion, but not all of them do. I wish this book would state if the rocks are igneous, sedimentary or metamorphic. I have to use another book for that.
