UPDATE 1/1/2020: I am updating my review to 5 stars. It took over 20 days for this bed to expand to just over 4 inches thick, but, it did! My previous review is below and exactly it was when I first posted for this review.Instructions and product info says to allow 24 hours and that is way too short a time.In that the memory foam i this is very thick and good quality, and due to the compression used to package it, there is no way it will expand fully in just 24 hours.It actually began to expand more about a week after we put i on the floor. Hig density memory foam needs time to assume its full thickness, especially if its been highly compressed for shipment and that way for perhaps months.Be patient, and this bed will work out very well. now our two Goldens who have other comfy beds in the house too, fight over this one and they both try to get on it first at night! Hmmm...just might need to order one more of these and at this price, I am fine doing that!-----------------------------We have a big golden girl, she is in the 90 pound range (large frame for her breed) and the X-large bed in this style works to support her long length. The bed memory and top foam seems very firm and it does support her well and keeps her large frame very comfortable overnight.The product photos though would suggest a 4 or more inch thickness and that is not the case. We let it expand in a warm room for over 24 hours and it did not expand much. The thickness of this bed is under 3 inches at full expansion.That's not an issue if the firmness is adequate proportional to the thickness.Just be aware you're not going to get a bed as thick as the product photos would lead you to believe.Did we get a similar to updated bed model by mistake that is thinner? I doubt that and it's probably what is advertised other than being thinner than expected.At under $40 for a bed like this and considering the nice firmness of the memory and topper foam combo, we'll kee this and our girl seems quite content using it as well.The positive benefit of a thinner bed is when warmer days come, it tends to be less hot to sleep on, the bed the dog will "sink" into. So a thinner bed is not all that bad, all considered.3 stars for the tricky photo illustrations that suggest this bed is thicker than it really is and 5 stars for it's nice density of the foam that will work, even though it is thinner. (Average = 4 stars).

Fluffed up in less than 5 hours and now I have a happy puppy. I can hear her arthritic joints thanking me haha

We have two of these beds from Amazon for our ONE dog {;-) They are great mattresses. They are comprised of two very different foams. The dense, flat, lower half is memory foam while the upper half is orthopedic egg crate foam.Some time ago "Whitney" threw up so unexpectedly, on one of the mattresses, that she couldn't get off the bed in time. The stomach acid went right through the cover and into the foam quickly. I went through holy hell for days to get that smell out of the foam. Had to submerge them in a strong disinfectant mixture for 2 days; then two more days to air dry them with fans [dead of winter - clothesline not an option]. So I went on a mission to find a product to protect/waterproof this foam from another disaster. I finally found an almost perfectly sized waterproof pad for these mattresses. They are a washable underpad from Cardinal Health Essentials. They are inexpensive and available from Amazon as well as Save-rite medical. Our dog beds are 24 x 37. These pads are 23 x 36. If you center the pad on the foam, before you zip up the cover, only a mere 1/2 inch is exposed around the perimeter. The waterproof under side of the pads is a soft, "fabric-like" feeling vinyl. And the top is a soft cotton/poly blend. I personally will keep mine out of the dryer. I think they will last a long time then. I don't feel that vinyl and dryer heat get along very well. I bought a couple spares so they can dry as long as they need. I AM a happy camper now!! Thank you.T'care,Syd

This dog bed meets my expectations, and my 70 lb dog is happy. I am ordered the XL. It's really nice for the money and so comfy. I like the zipper so you can wash the cover. If you are looking at this bed online at Amazon and not sure if your pet would like it......buy it cause your pet will love it. Do what the directions say and let if fluff for 48 hrs before use. I kinda did the fluffing twice a day and it does fluff up, and is thick. If your dog is a scratcher then this bed will not be for your purchase. I am so pleased with this purchase and have been looking at so many beds trying to decide which is best and the reviews on this bed sold me. Going on a road trip soon and this will be the perfect bed for my dog and to be confortable. I will keep this sellers name on my to buy list. Thank you. Shipping was really fast and a day early. The seller said it was coming a day earlier than expected....great service which you dont always get now a days. I love shopping thru Amazon and have never experienced any difficulties. This is the best dog bed I’ve ever owned! At first I bought the XL and it sleeps my puggish dog and my catahoula great and has room for the neighbor’s spaniel as well. I just bought it in large too, because we recently acquired a mini pig. He’s gotten to 60-70 pounds and was rooting the dogs off the XL bed. Ha! Pros...is durable and retains its shape even after sleeping well over 100 pounds of dogs/pig every night, and I’ve had the XL for over 6 months now. When the animals are not on it, there are no dips or dents or shallow spots where they sleep on it. When they are all on it, it’s stiff enough so that they don’t touch the floor underneath. The animals have not been tempted to chew on it like they did some of the cedar smelling or poly filled beds. So it must be made out of something that does not tempt them. The cover fits tight to the mattress so it’s easy to vacuum. Cons...the only one I can think of is that the cover is very thin and not waterproof. I remedy the thin part by putting a blanket on top of the bed and tucking it under the sides of the mattress. Some dogs like to kind of dig around before they lay down, so that might be an issue if your dog does this. The waterproof part has only been an issue one time when the pig wet the bed in his sleep (Pigs are like toddlers, really. Ugh!) I washed the mattress cover and then stood on the mattress with a towel to soak up any excess. So, if you have an incontinent dog, might want to spring for the waterproof cover that you can buy extra. Also, the mattress is totally flat when it comes out of the box. It takes it a couple of hours to get to the full thickness, but once it does, it stays that way. It’s really great! The pic is the XL and the L side by side (with my personal blankets as covers).
