Madden NFL 10 - Xbox 360

Mixed Feelings
Talk about mixed feelings. I picked this up to relive some memories since I can't really stand the direction the series has gone in otherwise. It's a good game. Madden 10 widened the field and slowed down player moment significantly, making the scale of any given play seem much bigger. It was a great change. There are Wildcat plays and far more Spread formations than there were in past Madden titles. This feels rather like the first "modern" title for the NFL, in both the sense that the gameplay feels very next-gen (for the time, anyway) and that the trappings are there to give you a satisfying impression of an NFL sim. That's the good. Now the bad. Players are still, for reasons that will never make any sense to me, locked hard into their positions. For a game that feels quite modern, this is a huge issue, and one that has persisted in the Madden series for ages. Secondly, the franchise mode is just awful. For one, every draft class is premade, meaning you can get one or two good run-throughs of a franchise mode before you've basically "seen it all." Secondly, and compounding this previous issue, player progression is static, it is tied to a single attribute (potential) and this attribute cannot be changed. This means that no matter how smart you think you are, or how good you are at running a team, your ability to impact your players or the league is significantly limited, because potential is really all that matters.Ultimately, I'm disappointed with my trip. But I can still appreciate the advances that were made and the degree to which they changed up the game engine to accommodate new modes of play. So, 3/5.

Madden 10 is still the best here in 2014.
I'm back to playing Madden 10 after playing 15. Mind you, I enjoy Madden 15. But there is something about Madden 10 I can't decipher what is so great about it. In a nutshell, all I can determine is that it's extremely fun, and when it comes down to it, it's about the fun factor. I think the AI is definitely smarter, they did serious patching back when this was out and it was the last many of the original developers from Madden made game, then they moved on after this release. I can tell they put their heart and soul into it. The gameplay is tight, the graphics are still really considering it came out years ago. I also really like the soundtrack. It's the only game along with 11 that had the classic NFL Films music by Sam Spence and I'm' amazed how much that does for the game. The game may not have the latest rosters, but if you can deal with that and just want an amazing game of football. Madden 10 in my opinion is the best Madden ever made. It has legends, lots of modes, and lots of replay value. Even better, you can get it for dirt cheap. Amen to that.

This game stinks! My first xbox video game regret
Let me start off by saying that the last football game I owned was Madden '98 on Nintendo 64. I have played newer versions through the years on friends systems and enjoyed them immensely. I decided that I wanted to get a newer on for Xbox360. Being a cheapskate, I decided to wait for Madden '11 to come out and then buy '10 at a cheaper price.Well now that I have it, I've played a few games with it and it is just flat out terrible. This game has left me more mad and frustrated and I haven't had any fun playing it. At all. This is the first game on Xbox I wished I hadn't spent money on (even though I only spent $20).My biggest complaint is the A.I. is so wildly inconsistent that it makes the game not fun. On offense I will have a receiver get open, and throw the ball to him and by the time it gets there, 4 other defensive players will have managed to run 40 yds in 2 sec to defend my receiver. Linemen will also only block their assignment for a few seconds before they let up - this means you only have a short time in the pocket. Even when you're a strong team playing a weak team (Colts v. Browns for example). Yet if I'm on defense and the AI receiver gets open, its a touchdown so long as he catches it. My defensive backs can never catch the AI's receivers - regardless of who it is.Playing on defense is just as worst. The A.I. will just have your defense completely blow their coverage or will even run the opposite way. For instance if a LB drops back in coverage and the computer runs a running play, the LB will continue to stay in coverage instead of going after the running back to the point that he will run away from the back, even if his coverage route takes him right by the back carrying the ball. Or often the receiver will run right by your corner without him moving, and only after he is beat will he start to chase the receiver. Completely unrealistic and inconsistent. The computer offensive line will also hold their blocks and give superior protection than they give you when you're on offense.I do like the fact that the arcade feel is gone from what I remember back in the day (who remembers those 77-10 games?!!). But at the same time the AI is just too inconsistent for this game to be any fun. I wanted to like this game as I freakin' love football and wanted a good game for the next gen systems to play, but its just terrible and is no fun to play. Only reason I'm giving it two stars is because I think the graphics are pretty good.

A solid game; But buy Madden 10, only if you haven't upgrade in 4-5 years
I haven't upgraded in a while, and the last Madden I have is Madden 2005. Besides better graphics, more realistic models and gameplay, not much has changed, for better or worse. Some thoughts* I like the play calling and ability to chose where you want your players to block. Being able to audible a player a certain route and switching another play to block is invaluable. It allows the gamer to read the defense and adjust accordingly.* As real as it gets. Although Madden has no competitor, Madden - to their credit - still does try to make this game as realistic as possible. Passing, routes, kicking the field goal are all realistic. However, there could be some improvement in the running style. Inside handoffs, pitches, counters are good, but the outside handoff and pitch seems awkward. It's difficult to make a quick reflex turn when running on the outside.* Fan and crowd animation isn't so good. You'd think by now that the fans and crowds of this game would at least look remotely good as the NFL players. It's not. Fans at the stadium just look terrible. For what it's worth, the game still hasn't improved that much in the past 3-4 years. My advice would to just to buy this only if you haven't upgraded in a long while. Otherwise, it's not worth upgrading every year.
