Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (BD)

Sometimes, it feels good to be wrong.
I was skeptical, to say the least. I’ve read Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and watched the poor rendition of greatness the move was. Douglas Adams does have a style that is hard to capture in film, but come on now...So when I heard that the Dirk Gently books were getting a TV show, I KNEW it wouldn’t work (in that way you know the future about things because you get jaded by past experiences and just can’t let them go).I am a humble man. I can admit when I am wrong. But there are times I will also shout from the rooftops that I have been wrong, and the world must know, so as to prevent repeating the same error I made. This is one of the latter times.I’m hard pressed to think of a way for video to do better justice to Adams’s characterization than this (I look forward to future seasons proving me wrong again, and this show getting even better). The acting, the dialogue, the delivery, the absurdity, it all flows well, and feels like it’s coming from Adams himself.

Many good! Wow! Such watch!
This show kind of reminds of the situation with Mel Brook's "The Producers". They did a Dirk Gently show a while back on BBC, that got all the details right to make the show fit with the books. It didn't work. Everything was right, but it just didn't FEEL right. In this newest incarnation, everything is wrong, Dirk Gently is not Dirk Gently from the books, the story doesn't come from the book, in fact they are barely even referenced. None of the characters or back-story fit with the books, and yet... it's amazing! The show feels like the books. They got the essence of the books even if none of the details. You should watch this!

The interconnectedness of things.
Ahh, solving a crime by letting the interconnectedness of things lead you to the solution and the culprit. This is a wacky journey through the world of Dirk Gently and how he solves crimes and his approach to being a detective. Funnily enough, it works. The show takes some getting used to, but once you do, you will love it. It's been said this show is a twist between Sherlock and Dr. Who. I would not go that far, but it is the best analogy that I could come up with if I had to. Dirk Gently is a man on a mission to solve puzzling situations and crimes by just letting things happen around him. He believes that the universe will put him or take him where he needs to be to solve the crime. And, eventually it does, though in a very round about way. The show is great, though I will say bizarre. however, there is a reason there was a second season.

Quintessentially On Target
This accomplishes the fundamental job here: Sculpt an extremely odd but elegant and peculiar vase. Then place it on a very precarious perch above a hard tile floor, and film it inevitably falling and shattering into a million tiny, irregular, unrecognizable shards of ceramic, each bearing some tiny fragment of the exerior surface design of the vase. Then thread that film into a projector backwards, and voila! The story of a scattered mess of fragments revealing their true nature in the spontaneous formation of a precarious but exquisite vase. Except with people, and daily life.

Could have been better
I read both of the Douglas Adams books. What I was quickly struck by was the casting or writing of the character Dirk. He just doesn't seem at all like what I recall from the books. There Dirk is not the silly guy in this show, nor a manifestation of something supernatural. He is more gritty and a bit sleazy. He promotes his business by stating, out of the blue, that he is NOT psychic, to create a rumor and prompt others to insist that he is. He takes jobs as a private investigator, but doesn't do much actual work. The other characters in that episode fill most of the story, bizarre funny coincidences occur around them, and in the end the case gets solved and Dirk gets credit for it.Getting past this difference, the show itself is fine. Wacky. But I could live without having seen it. And a TV show just can't live up to writing; e.g. Adams can go on for several page of just Dirk waking up in the morning, not quite ready to get out of bed, and somehow Adams can make this funny.

A very Fine Show
This is an interesting take on Dirk Gently as an American production. I have the English version and personally prefer it in that it follows the character a bit closer. However lovers of the novels will find that none of the productions really follow the character of the books. this production concocts a group of patients of an experiment that left them all outside of static reality and more free in the probability of their situations. Dirk is one of these patients. the two series of the American production completes the story.Everyone in the production gives a credible performance. it is well written and filmed.

I have never loved any show as much as I absolutely adore this ...
This is by far the most interesting, compelling, and insane show I've ever seen. I have never loved any show as much as I absolutely adore this one. Every aspect of the show is phenomenal, from the talented actors, to the truly inspired music and score, to the overly convoluted plot of s1 and the slightly-less-crazy plot of s2. Every single character is so well-written, defined, and portrayed that they could each easily be the stars of their own show. If anything, Dirk is really only one of many main characters, because every character is critical to the overarching story in some way.I would be thrilled if AMC or Netflix produced the third season of this show and would definitely jump at the chance to watch it. I need more holistic-ness in my life! Everything is connected <3

FANTASTIC AND FRESH!
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency is a FANTASTIC and FRESH t.v. series that I just HAD to own. ALL of the characters are fantastic, the storytelling is amazing, the aesthetic and feel of the show is awesome, the mystery, the ridiculous moments –everything. EVERYTHING is GREAT about this show! Each character is wonderful and interesting and quirky and flawed! Over the course of this season and the next, you get to learn a lot about them and see them grow which is fantastic. And, as crazy as this show gets and as quirky as these main characters are, nothing about this show is shallow or stereotypical. These characters are not silly caricatures, they are multifaceted, real people and it makes me so much more invested in seeing them succeed and it hurts that much more when they fail. I also really appreciated the lack of romantic entanglements in season one. The plot of this first season is kind of INSANE and there's not a lot out there like it, which might be disconcerting for some people, but you gotta stick with it because it is fantastic and solid! I DARE you to look for plot holes! I love the quirky, hilarious humour in this TV series. I love that the writers have taken the show’s motto to heart in production... everything is connected. There is much more nuance and connection between every little thing in the TV series than you might think which allows for MULTIPLE rewatches! I love that the show has its serious moments but also doesn’t take itself too seriously. This show is an amazing mix of action, intrigue, humour, and intelligence and I feel like FINALLY there's a show out there that GETS me and actually gives me what I want in a TV series!

Bu Ray version
This is one of my favorite show, way ahead of it's time. Fast pace, intriguing plot, seem to go nowhere at the time but near the end of season 2, everything is connected. So you have to take account of every details from the beginning, even if they don't look important.
